Question about osteoarthritis

For those of you who have osteoarthritis, I’m wondering about some pain and stiffness I have in my right hand middle finger. It doesn’t hurt every day. It hurts and is stiff when I have not moved my hand in a while. It’s only the middle finger. Once I am moving my hand it doesn’t hurt much. For the past 20 years my job has involved a lot of typing.

I’m wondering if it’s arthritis or maybe a trigger finger. Very occasionally it feels sort of funny in the joints like it wants to lock which is why I’m questioning about a trigger finger. If it doesn’t go away I will make an appointment with orthopedics but I was wondering if anyone has any similar experience.

It could be arthritis. I now have arthritis in all my fingers and toes, but for some months at least (about 7 years ago) it was only pain & stiffness of my left big toe. And as you describe, it would get better through the day as I walked and moved around.

Thanks Laura. It seems weird to me that it’s only in one joint. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I had arthritis. I got horrible MTX medicine. I quit with this medication ( also used as chemotherapy) because of the side effects. I started with herbs and do not have arthritis anymore.

There is information about it on a Dutch site:
https://www.bewegenzonderpijn.com/ge...htige-kruiden/

Maybe you can translate it?
I use:
The Green-lipped mussel and Turmeric in a drink.
I take Devil's claw powder.
I make herb tea with:
Alchemilla
Birch leaf
Nettle
Black currant leaf.
And use also vitamine D.
I hope this helps.

I experience almost the exact same thing but mine is in my index finger. It's a weird sensation in my first and second joint that feels almost like a bone is locking, or slipping or something like that that's hard to describe. Not exactly painful but unpleasant just the same. I'm chalking it up to a self-diagnosed osteoarthritis. At the end of this month I'm seeing my primary and I'll mention it to her. I have no history of lots of typing or other repetitive movement. Just aging and a normal use of hands. I take a common supplement that's been recommended by to me years ago by a sports medicine specialist and I find if I skip taking it for even couple of weeks, the issue with my index finger gets more frequent. Maybe it helps or maybe it doesn't. I'll continue taking it even if it's in my head.

Hope you find your answer.

I had trigger finger in my middle finger. IIRC, it would mostly bother me when I'd first wake up - it would get stuck in a bent position and I had to snap it back in place. I had surgery on it when I had my carpal tunnel surgery and that fixed it.

Wow, that does not sound fun. I'm glad you were able to get it fixed.

I had that too! Had surgery and then the next finger (ring) became a trigger finger. I got a cortisone shot in that one and so far (4 mths) it hasn't come back. I hope it doesn't but the cortisone shot only lasted 7 mths in the first one.
