Yoga and Glutes

I've done two yoga workouts lately (Denise Austin Yoga Buns plus Jessica Smith Yoga Strength and Stretch) that left my glutes pleasantly sore the next day. No other exercises that I do (including squats and lunges) seem to really target my glutes - especially that part between the glutes and the hamstrings. What specific yoga exercises would be affecting the glutes? If I could figure out I'd incorporate more of those into my exercise routine. The yoga workouts I mentioned above seemed pretty typical to me and included warrior (1, 2, and 3), crescent, triangle, down dog, tree, and so on so I'm not sure what would have worked my glutes.

Good to know. I have Denise's Yoga Buns.

Is the Jessica workout from a DVD? if so, which one?

Wow, I don’t know. I never have that experience with yoga, even back when I used to do only yoga pretty intensively.

Anything done in a stretched, eccentric position has the potential to result in more muscle soreness, so maybe it was just the area getting stretched in a new way while holding positions isometrically. Leah Sarago’s workouts used a more extended, kind of extreme lunge position sometimes, holding it for a long time, and I would have soreness sometimes doing those.

Of course not being sore doesn’t mean things aren’t getting worked, either.

Bridge pose really targets the glutes, and alternating leg lifts while in the pose, too! Also, chair pose.

The warrior poses usually do it for me!
