OT - Would like your input on an unusual problem

I have been invited as Bud Grant’s guest to the Monday night football game between the Packers and the Vikings on December 23rd. I’ve been Bud’s guest before and it’s always great fun - we get to eat the “good” food with the VIPs and meet a lot of interesting people. The difference this time is that the Vikings will be playing the Packers - MY Packers and I’m not sure how to handle this. I know I can’t cheer for the Vikings over the Packers, but I can’t cheer for the Packers right in front of Bud, either. What I was thinking was that I would wear some kind of holiday top because it will be right before Christmas and then just sit and be polite during the game and hold my emotions inside. Of course, I won’t know until then but that late in the season, the game could be very important to one or both teams as far as playoffs go or it could be meaningless. So do you think my plan is the right way to go? Thanks for your input!

I truly understand your dilemma!

I lived in a huge football town for years, while being a lifelong fan of a division rival.

I think your plan should work. I'd definitely steer away from sports talk as much as I could.

Good luck!

You should go. I have been at many VIP functions that a participant has stated something like "l have season tickets and I'm a devoted Atlanta Braves fan except when they play the Boston Red Soxs from my hometown". Everyone understands. Also, if the Vikings are "favored" you can comment on how great it is to have your hometown team challenge them.

Maybe wear gold and white?

You should go. And so what you’re for the other team. Can you imagine how many people hate us Patriots? And I still wave for them. That’s the only team I know except. Dallas cowboys who haven’t won since I started learning football

If he knows you well enough to invite you, he should know the Packers are your team - so cheer for them (although the Vikings will win).

Talking

ditto. if you cheer for who you know it will be real. You can't fake knowing about a team if he asks you questions. You come right straight from the get. And wear blue and white lol

Fellow Packer fan here! I totally understand your dilemma. I don't know how you got on the invite being a Packer Backer?? But, I think I would have to tell Bud, I am a devoted Packer fan and have to cheer for my team. You could sit quietly, be diplomatic and not cheer. But is it worth it to you? It would not be fun for me, if I couldn't have fun cheering for my beloved Packers.

Also, by then, you will know if the Packers suck. Then you won't have to worry about not cheering.

That’s funny, marki - I hope they don’t suck. As much as I love the Packers and always want them to win, it’s still just football to me. Bud’s desire to see the Vikings win is on a much higher level. He really, really wants to see the Vikings win a Super Bowl before he goes. It means A LOT to him. But maybe by December 23, neither team will have much riding on the game.

Bud has a cabin up where I live and I’ve done some work out there and been over for dinner and stuff.

I had to look him up. that guy is old as dirt. He's been around lots of folks rooting for the other team. He don't care. he just wants to have an escort.
