Off-Topic Update on my DH...

I know several ladies here inquired after my husband after he was diagnosed with cancer a few years back. I just wanted to give an update...

After 2+ years of maintenance chemo, he finally finished it up with an all-clear last month. Great news!

However (

)...his final bone marrow biopsy revealed a mutation in a chromosome. (Chemo can do this, unfortunately). It is considered a secondary cancer, and only treatable via bone marrow transplant.

It was a bit of a low blow for DH, who had every reason to feel like we were at the end of a long road (he's been in treatment since Nov. 2014). Anyway, we're currently starting the process for donor matching, with a transplant likely in about 2 months.

So...not a great update. Not terrible, either. Terrible would've been if they'd missed this small chromosomal abnormality and it'd fully developed into leukemia. We're thankful to live in an age of modern medicine (even if sometimes it's as dangerous as it is life-saving). We're also thankful that it looks like the bulk of this will occur at the end of the semester/during the summer, so maybe DH will be able to finish this year and be able to return to work in the fall.

So sorry to hear that you are both going through this. I can't imagine how life changing something like that can be. So glad to hear that there's hope of getting it all taken care of soon. I'll say a prayer for you both.
