how to hook up tv to computer to watch youtube?

Any suggestion on how to hook up TV so I can watch my youtube workouts on TV instead of computer? I wish I knew more about this stuff so any suggestions will help.

Thank you,
Pam

If your computer and tv both have HDMI ports, an HDMI cable is pretty simple to connect the two. It would essentially make your tv screen mirror whatever you play on the computer, and you'd control starting and stopping the video on your computer.

What kind of computer do you, and what model? I have an iPhone connector and an HDMI cable for my Mac. I also have a smart tv, so YouTube videos are pretty easy.

Roku offers YouTube as one of its channels.

Chromecast... Your TV mirrors your phone/tablet.

I use the Amazon Firestick. You just scroll to the youtube video you want to play and it turns on the tv. It's easy to use.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I think the first step is getting rid of our very OLD TV and getting a smart TV. I haven't looked into Roku but will. I am still in the dark ages about computer smarts. We don't have cell phone service where we are (in the boondocks) and desktop computer Thanks to all for suggestions and I am going to check them all out.

I just did this so that I can hook up my laptop to the TV in my basement room where I exercise. (As a side note, that TV is relatively new and is hooked up to a Bluray, but unfortunately neither can stream without the purchase of an extra component that costs close to $100--I wish I had known that when purchasing!)

My laptop has a mini port (like a tiny USB--I use it for my camera connection mostly), so I bought a mini display port to HDMI, and it works great! I searched carefully to make sure that I was getting the right thing; apparently, you need HDMI to make sure that you get both audio and video, so make sure that your TV has at least one HDMI port.

You don't need a SMART TV, but you do need a newer one made within the last ten years with hdmi inputs.

The chromecast, fire, etc. connect via hdmi.

This is what we did.

Here is an easy explanation by way of video. Your TV doesn't have to be Smart, either.

How to Use HDMI* to Connect Your Laptop to Your TV

The instructions work the same for a desktop, which is what we have.
