I haven't heard the terms applied to exercise, only food. Some foods are more acid, others alkaline. Our bodies need more alkaline, but processed food is acid,

Based on that, I'm guessing their philosophy is that high-intensity, CNS-destroying workouts are "acid" and yoga-type/balancing workouts are "alkaline".

I just recently heard the term "alkalizing" in a Yin practice on YogaGlo. Personally, it makes sense to me, being someone who struggles with numerous food sensitivities/allergies, and who does better when incorporating more of the so-called alkaline foods.

Well, it's clear I have an alkaline predisposition. The only Acid part of me is the zillion little pulses from Callanetics.

I honestly can't think of any reason this would exist aside from the old lactic acid myth (lactic acid does exist, just the whole "oh I'm still sore from all that lactic acid in my muscles from that workout I did yesterday" thing).

I know Jen is waiting for me to say this so....

....it sounds like a pantload

Pat, I can see it for food, sure. I just can't see it for exercise, and feel like it's being thrown out there as the potential newest fitness buzzword. Like what's next, gluten free exercise?
