Question Are you dealing with Bone Loss?

This is a quick Poll to find out how many VFers are dealing with various degrees of Bone Loss. I know there are finer points when it comes to T-Scores, Z-Scores, Fracture Risk, etc., but I'm just looking for Yay or Nay today.

Thanks!

I don't know if I'm dealing with bone loss, as I have never been tested.

I think it’s good to have it tested before menopause to have a baseline. Post menopause is generally when it becomes a problem. I had mine tested in my 40s when I had a fracture and it was was fine then . I had another fracture after menopause and I was borderline osteopenia. I plan to have it checked again this year. I have other risk factors aside from being menopausal.....family history, fine boned, history of fractures.

While I would love to have a test, my insurance provider won’t cover it until I’m 60. I think my progressing scoliosis is due in part to bone loss. My condition worsened quickly in the two years after I went off the pill. Brought this up with my gyn hoping she’d gimme back my rx but no go. She just suggested that I see if my insurance would cover the bone test.

I likely will be having back surgery later this year.

I don't know how to answer. My doctor had me do a scan at age 57, because I had multiple risk factors: postmenopausal, I was under 127 lbs and my mother took an osteoporosis drug. The scan said I had osteopenia. He suggested I double my calcium supplement from 600 mg to 1200 mg and he tested me two years later at 59. My bone density was normal. I don't think he'll test me again until age 65.

I recently graduated from 'penia to 'porosis. I'm right on the borderline of 2.5 in the femoral neck. At this point I have no intention of taking meds for it. I was taken off some meds that contributed to it - hopefully not too late.

Even though I was only 57, my insurance covered my scan 100% as preventive care, probably because it was done on the same day as my well-woman exam.

My concern lies in the possible inaccuracy of DEXA scans. https://www.betterbones.com/category/testing/
