How to back up DVDs?

What software to use for backing up DVDs? I tried one of my older Cathe dvds and it’s not working anymore. I want to back up the newer ones so this does not happen. Which software to use? Thanks!

Do you have a Mac or PC?

I use BurnAware (the version I use is free) to make ISO backups of my DVDs. You can't play ISO files like you can an MP4 file but you can use an ISO file to quite easily burn an exact duplicate physical dvd should your original dvd get destroyed or whatever.

I use a PC.

Edited to add: ISO files take up just as much room as original DVDs (usually over 4GB per DVD/ISO file) but I have an external 5TB hard drive I got fairly inexpensively at Costco.

I have everything backed up pretty much EXCEPT my Cathe collection because I have so many Cathe DVDs.

I originally backed up my discs using DVDShrink, and some originals deteriorated so that I had to toss them & use the backup; but I'm now in the process of saving them as iso files - preparing for when the DVD player stops working & rather than buy another player, I'll take an older computer that can play the files, and project it to the TV. Planning WAY ahead!

I'm on an iMac, so using Toaster to do it. Unlike adawn, I AM doing my Cathe's and have 3x 2T externals to save all my workouts.

Years ago, converted ALL my VHS to DVD - with chapters & menus (!), and got that job done in time before the VHS player stopped working.

Have NO intention of using any streaming service other than YouTube.

Same here. I've converted all my DVDs to digital files. I really do not use my DVDs anymore. I played it using my external hard drive connected to my DVD player USB. I use Freemake.

I much prefer streaming to dvd.
Wish I had not bought so many dvds that are now included in streaming packages.
