Thanks for bring us into summer, difit!

I am off until August 1st (work at a college) and have a lot of reading I want to do! I'm actually reading three different books right now (I leave them in different areas of the house, haha). I am on a Buddhism kick, so I am reading Jack Kornfield's A Wise Heart and Buddhism for Beginners by Thubten Chodron. I am also reading Yoga for People Who Can't Be Bothered to Do It, which is a travel memoir and not really about yoga.

I think I need to start a novel!

I am also off until the beginning of August and have tons of books I want to read this summer. I happened to pick up Hostage Taker by Stefanie Pintoff at the library today. So far, so good.

We will have to encourage each other! I read a little in my Buddhism for Beginners book today. DH and I want to be more scheduled than we usually are when I am off and spend time reading before bed each night.

Ah, summer books!

I just finished Exhalation by Ted Chiang. Very good reading, but I do think he's got a tendency to ramble a bit. It's short stories, some much longer than others, and the quality varies somewhat. I gather these were assembled from short stories that had been printed elsewhere.

He wrote the short story that was the basis for the movie Arrival. Both are very well done, and thought provoking. That story is in Stories of your Life and Others.

Still reading along in Becky Chambers A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. It's my current go-to between books. (Kinda gave up on HP for a while, sorta burned out there after yet another re-read.)

I just finished reading Mary Kay Andrews’ High Tide Club which I really enjoyed. It had a little bit of everything....mystery, history, present day and romance.

I just started reading Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I’m only a few chapters in but like it so far.

I finished The Optimist's Guide to Letting Go by Amy Reichart. I really enjoyed it. The story flowed. I'm also reading The First Family by Michael Palmer which is a different type of mystery (a good thing).

Has anyone read Women Rowing North by Mary Pipher?

Some of my friends from church have suggested it. I think they'd like to start a book club sort of thing, and that this would be a good choice that we could read and discuss together.

I've got it on hold at the library, but haven't picked it up yet.

I like Mary Kay Andrews High Tide Club-My library had her as a guest speaker last fall. Also loved Hissy Fit

I really liked the Callahan Garrity series that she wrote under the name Kathy Hogan Trocheck, but she said her focus now is her writing as Mary Kay Andrews.

Very nice lady.
