I'm always up for YA/Juv. fantasy, especially if my library has it available as ebook. I just finished Henry Neff's 5 book Tapestry series, and its follow-up Impyrium. It's like Harry Potter meets Percy Jackson meets Fablehaven meets... Anyway, it's familiar but new enough to be an enjoyable read.

Here’s what I’ve read and listened to so far in January.

1. Happiness a Memoir, Heather Harpham, Kindle
2. Stories I Only Tell My Friends, Rob Low, Audible
3. True Crime Addict, Audible, James Renner

I have Liane Moriarty’s Nine Perfect Strangers on my Kindle. Perfect for this snow day.

I finished "Her Name is Rose" and am starting "What My Sister Knew" and Tina Turner's new biography.

TracyQ, thanks for reviving us--I meant to post yesterday.

Has anyone read any Jill Mansell? I finished my first book from her yesterday, To the Moon and Back, and I really liked it! She reminded me quite a bit of Maeve Binchy in the way she interwove stories and had kind of that irreverent attitude. I'd be interested in other recommendations for her books!

I am also reading the non-fiction book Alone Together. I thought it would be about how the internet has resulted in society becoming more isolated, but it's not--at least not yet. So far the author is mainly talking about how we relate to artificial intelligence technology, starting with things for kids (e.g., Furby and My Real Baby back in the 90s/00s). It's very interesting but slow going!

I will probably start another fiction book; I have several waiting, and we are snowed in.

Beth, I have read several of her books and enjoyed them .I have about six more I have not read yet. I was surprised to find them at my library sale for fifty cents each. She had one serious book about a woman with cystic fibrosis. I passed it along to another VF member who likes her books.

I have to read descriptions to recall which ones I have read.

You may like the Irish author Roisin Meaney.

Current reads:
The Ex-Wife by Jess Ryder - this is really keeping my interest
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones - not bad, but not I hope it picks up

Since the beginning of the year, I've read:
Where the Crawdads Sing - enjoyed this one, but very a bit over-hyped
Goodnight Nobody (an old Jennifer Weiner) - this was okay.
The Perfect Nanny - was not the perfect book. I was disappointed
Girl, Wash Your Face - meh, not so great. I don't think I was the target audience.

Jez, sounds like you have had a bunch of disappointments so far this year!

Sherry, the one I read was about a woman, Ellie, whose husband died suddenly in a car accident and her struggles to move forward after this.

Hi everyone!

My reading habits have been disrupted lately.

So far this year I've only managed to get most of the way through Louise Penny's Still Life, reading a bit at mealtimes when I think about it, and for a little while at night.

I went to the library yesterday, though. Something about a holiday weekend always convinces me that I'll need something extra to read.

Picked up Kate Atkinson's Transcription, much to my astonishment.

Our library does one of those shelving things where the newest, most popular books can't be put on hold so people who come in the library can see and pick up something new. I mostly hate it because the system doesn't always tell you that there IS a copy in the system, and certainly doesn't mention that it can only be picked up IRL, not through holds. Back when my father was so sick it was really frustrating not to be able to know what they had. Sure I get it, some books can't be put on hold, but isn't the point of a computer based catalog to have an easy way to know what's in the system?

Sorry, rant over.
