Yes, I have chickens, so very fresh eggs that don't like to peel well. The only thing that remotely works for me is the instant pot method, and even it is not 100% but it's much better. I find that if I peel them while they're still hot/warm it works a lot better than if I let them sit or get cold.

Peel as we eat them.

And may I suggest an Egguin to hold your boiled/steamed eggs? I got one of these last year and it's great both for keeping the eggs from cracking while boiling and for storing in the fridge.

Here's a link to a longer article, with other techniques and more explanations, but I've been steaming mine for a pretty good while now.

Anna - the method in the video worked well. Much better egg peeling! Yay!

The key is STALE EGGS.

Fresh eggs are very difficult to peel.

I prepare for the holidays, when I am going to make devilled eggs, by buying eggs 3 weeks ahead of time.

(on edit, the reason I know this is that I helped take care of chickens when I was a kid.... my grandma would always save out a dozen eggs a month before Thanksgiving or a month before Christmas, to make devilled eggs. Fresh eggs are great for eating but old ones for boiling and peeling!)

This is the key, water gets in the cracks and under the shell.

Put eggs in cold water, bring to boil, then TIME them to boil for 7 minutes.
Then plunge into sink full of cold water.

They will not have that greenish sulphur layer and will be easy to peel.
This method doesn’t matter about whether they are super fresh or not.

We do a dozen every week to have a bowl always available for snacks.

Plain water is fine, no salt, no vinegar... and ordinary saucepan will do.
Helen this has worked so great for me! Thank you and for this thread Vintage Vfer!!

Glad to help. The thing about the steaming method I like best is that it's so very easy and quick since you don't use much water.
