Working Out With Your Fur Babies

This is a must-see so I hope the link works:

Do your fur babies work out with you?

My cat crawls beneath me anytime I'm in plank/pushup position. If I stop so that he'll leave, he makes a mad dash back into place if I don't wait long enough to be completely out of his sight.

I used to have a long haired chocolate dachshund named Topper who always stood about a foot away from me whenever I exercised and he would stare at me like I was totally fascinating. I used to call him my “spotter”.

I also had a parakeet named Cecil who would scream “Wawk! Wawk!” And pace back and forth on his perch every time I did Leslie and the Power Walk song would come on. I wish I had taken a video of that and I wish they were both still with me.

Oh, my gosh, one of my cats does this, too! (I have two; the male cat does not do this, only the female.) Almost every time I work out, when I'm in tabletop, plank, or pushup position, she crawls beneath me and flops over with her belly up. It's soooo cute, but sometimes when I get up to do some other type of move, she'll just stay there, and I get a little worried about tripping over her or dropping a weight on her or something. I also do weighted chest work on an aerobic step, and if I do that and my ponytail is hanging off the edge of the step, she will come and attack it.

Not like that doberman, lol.

I have an orange tabby that will jump on my back when I'm in child's position for yoga, or on my hands and knees for cat cow. He just did that last night, leaped into the air and landed on my back while I was trying to do pushups! Fortunately, he doesn't dig his claws in. Probably because the one time he did, I yelled my head off, lol. He's overweight, so pretty heavy. I actually did a couple of pushups with him on top of my back!

When I'm laying on the floor for floor work, he will lay beside my hair and purr. We found him when he was only a day old, so he was definitely weaned too early.

I needed that laugh! I could totally see Cyric learning to do that if he had a more patient trainer than I! When I first used my rebounder after we got him he laid on the floor next to it and watched underneath. I don't know if he thought I would go through or what. He's also the dog who looked in the big mirror at my parents' house and then went into the closet behind it like he was looking for that other dog he saw. When I roll out my mat he takes that to mean playtime and brings me a toy to play tug with.

Years ago when I was doing PT every morning Chianna thought she needed to help me. She would sit next to the stability ball like she was afraid it would roll out from under me. She did not like the Zumba sticks very well or any clapping. D'Argo would just watch me from the beanbag chair. Never tried to join in but he didn't want to be far away. Man, I miss those two.

Haha that's hilarious..thanks for posting that link!

My kitty just goes crazy when I do CS..the arm waves and stretching i think are what instigates it. As soon as I start, she scoots around me convinced I'm trying to play and taunt her. In and out of the room she hippity hops when I start trying to get me and my crazy arms after her . Anytime I reach for the floor she puts her back there so I can scruffle her fur and dart away. She's a hoot (esp. since she's a senior cat. )

When I'm on my back for ab crunches my cat comes over and kneads on my abs with his paws. He's snagged quite a few of my exercise tops.

Alice is a standard poodle. She does usually exercise with me, but we do different things.

Most often I hold one end of a long, thick rope and she tugs on the other. I can do all the arm movements that way (extra resistance!) and can do a step workout with her in tug-mode without it really affecting me. I'm quite fast at changing hands, or switching it behind me as required. When she's had enough, she'll drop it and bring me a ball instead. The gym is a mezzanine so I'm able to toss the ball to the next level down, or down the lower stairs so she has to fetch for 2 flights.

When I have weights in my hands, she lays down with a groan.

She'll often sit & watch the workout too, but has never attempted to DO any of the moves herself. That doberman in the video was AWESOME!!
