help with cardio mat flooring, please!

I need to move my main exercise space to a room that has thick carpeting with a very large area rug over it (too big to be rolled up). It is not a good surface for cardio. Well, it isn't bad for barefoot cardio, but it stinks for cardio done wearing shoes. My sneakers get "stuck."

I've used puzzle mats in the past, but they become unhooked and slide around even when I put weights on the corners. It drives me crazy!

I was looking on Amazon and found this mat-I'm not sure what size I need. I need to measure the space.

https://www.amazon.com/Exercise-Home...ter+cardio+mat

It looks like all the reviews are done by people who received them at a discount, so I'd love some unbiased reviews from VF'ers.

My biggest concern is whether it will slide around on top of the area rug.

Has anyone found anything that works for this set up?

I don't want to spend over $100 for an exercise surface.

Thanks for any input.

ETA: I went on the company's website, and they sell carpet anchor pads (great idea!) but they are out of stock.

I'm wondering if the mats they sell to put underneath cardio equipment (like treadmills and ellipticals) would be similar. I got mine at Walmart:

I would think you could attach two together with duck tape (underneath). It would be bigger than the Amazon one and quite a bit cheaper.

Not sure about the moving around part, mine's underneath an elliptical on a concrete floor. But at least you could easily return it.

Lori-thank you so much for replying. I really appreciate it. I had tried one of those mats previously, and it kept slipping around.

I wonder if you put those grip pads underneath the mat if it would make it stay? Like these:
