Thanks, Sherry!

Just some suggestions:

Read the owner's manual! I tore off all the extra translations. Makes it look much more reasonable.

This Old Gal has a blog & a group on FB with excellent recipes, but there are a ton of advertisements. Ignore them, the recipes are great. She also has links to accessories for the IP.

There is also an Instant Pot group on FB. Read & search; you'll find info!

Experiment! It won't explode.

ETA: If you google recipes for Instant Pot you'll find lots!

Thanks so much, Kay!

Pat started a thread also-oops! Is there a way to combine them, or can I delete mine?

Oh that smelly ring! Yes, it happens. Good tips:
  • Purchase an extra ring; keep one for "sweet" foods (oatmeal, grains) and one for savory dishes containing garlic, cabbage, etc.
  • Store the lid with the ring up.
  • Remove and thoroughly clean ring regularly. Baking soda is good, as is a white vinegar solution soak.
  • I now keep my savory ring in the freezer and pop it back on before use.
  • Sunlight also helps; if it gets really bad get a new one.

BUT I'M AFRAID TO CHANGE THE RING. - I was for the longest time. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy peasy!! Here is an in-depth guide to the sealing ring.

Laura, I loved your comment in the other thread that the Instant Pot is a slow cooker on steroids.

I'm using it as a diffuser this morning. It's so dry in the house this morning. I filled the liner 3/4 up with water, added a couple drops of essential oil and with the lid off, set it to steam on medium.

Thanks again for starting this thread.
Had a hectic weekend with unexpected call to work.
Have just opened the big box and pulled out the manual and recipe book.
When I looked online I read somewhere that if you are using the bigger 8qt pot then you need to add a bit more liquid. Yet, when I looked at a lot of the online recipes none say whether it is for the 6 or the 8qt pot. I have a big family and was hoping to have leftovers for work. (ha ha ha)
Does anyone use the bigger pot? What does a little more liquid actually mean?
I am excited to try the water test later and get some recipes picked out so I can shop for food.
The recipe book that came with this pot does not make a distinction about pot size for recipes. Also, would the time to cook change?
I am most likely overthinking this and that is why I appreciate coming here and asking my silly questions!

Gladgirl I recommend joining the Instant Pot Community if you are on Facebook. People with the 8 quart can answer your questions.
