I believe I'm done with menopause. I'm still having occasional hot flashes, but I mark the beginning and the end of menopause with sleeping issues. Before peri/menopause I slept all night long. After menopause, I sleep all night long.

I guess I'm still in the midst of it. Sleeping issues are my worst problem.

Well I started getting more energy and losing weight about 6 months after my last period. I was still getting hot flashes which have diminished quite a bit recently 3 1/2 years after my last period. I still struggle with sleep issues but not as bad as during perimenopause.

Sara Gottfried's The Hormone Cure has quite a lot of information about the changes that take place around menopause. She has little quizzes in the book that can help to pinpoint what might be causing problems (thyroid, estrogen, etc.) and recommends supplements for mild problems and pharmaceutical interventions when necessary. I had a lot of relief from the sluggish feeling caused by low thyroid function by following her plan.

It was about 3 years after my last period that my hunger subsided, energy came back (better sleep) and I was able to lose all the weight I gained.

Here's another thing to look forward to:
