Never saw Cocoon but I remember him best in "the Thing". As a kid, the special effects in that movie were ground breaking for me and Kurt Russell was a new kind of hero. I saw it on a little one screen theater in my tiny home town ---as many times as my banana seat purple bicycle could carry me there lol

I had a purple banana seat bicycle too! Mine had a white seat and flecks of metallic in the purple paint on the bike. Wow. I had not thought about that bike in decades until you posted. Thanks for the fun memory!!!

Lol My bike had a white seat and the purple paint definitely had metallic sparkles. I had the u-shaped handle bars and a white basket with plastic daisy heads (yellow and pink centers) attached on the front. My grandfather gifted it to me for no specific reason and it provoked childhood awe. I rode it until it disintegrated from all that love

Makes my heart long for simpler times, and I feel grateful that I have such memories stored there

From what I read, no one knew. He kept it private. He was diagnosed in 2016 and made several movies even while going through surgeries and chemo, including Black Panther and the last two Avengers movies.
