Beth, I had a vertebral compression injury about six years ago. I did PT and then did my own rehab at home. I stopped doing any kind of bent over movements. I bought the Bob & Brad wall anchors and could do heavy (using heavy bands) back exercises standing up.

Bob and Brad Workout Wall Anchors

I am back to being able to do bent over rows. I still use my wall anchors a lot through. The anchors are one of the best fitness investments I ever made.

I still do bent-over rows, but I don't rely on them exclusively. I also think Roxanne's form leaves a lot to be desired. Never mind that she seems to forget more often than she should that they're meant to be grinds and not ballistic moves. Unfortunately, she isn't alone in this.

Donna, yes, you and prettyinpink were on the same wavelength with that - no need for death by rows!

Alta, I like the idea of doing back work standing instead! I think there are probably plenty of alternatives - even though I know how to modify for myself, sometimes I still get too wedded to doing videos "as is."

In this case, I think I ploughed forward because I have done rows without issue before. However, Roxanne was doing them heavier plus was doing multiple sets. Personally, I love when a YouTube routine says "no repeats."

I saw this in a video years ago. Lean forward, and rest your forehead on something table height (use padding) and do your rows that way. I generally rest my foot on my step, and bend forward using my knee for support.

I have an old back injury so I completely avoid deadlifts, but I modify rows.

Interesting, Jane - that version actually sounds more ouch-y to me than deadlifts!
