Assessing my hits and misses for 2008

Is it too early?

I just went through my workout calendar and can't believe how many new workouts I went through! Some were great, some went out the door pretty fast, and some fell somewhere in the middle.

These are "new to me" workouts, so some were released prior to 2008, but here's my list:

Hits:
Hard Work Conditioning
Not Your Momma's Step
Step Moves, New Grooves
Ripped and Chiseled
Tap Less Step More
30 Minutes to Fitness - Weights
Strength and Core Fusion
Interval Party 2
Step Party 2
Advanced Step Challenge 3
Kettlebell your Way to a Perfect Body
Ultimate Body Sculpt & Conditioning
Extreme Kettlebell Cardio Workout
Play Ball
BodyStrikes
PowerStrike 5

Misses:
All Cardio Step
In the Ring (did once, too much a learning curve and not motivated to try again)
Kickbox Core Cross Train
Firm - Kick Jump Jab
Firm - Dangerous Curves Ahead
Power Abs Medball Workout

So-So:
3-2-1 Dance (save for an easy day)
Absolute Kickboxing
Strike Zone
Dumb Training
Body Design
Iron Core 1
Iron Core 2
Life Force
Kettlebell Way Volume 2

ETA - to add PowerStrike 5 to the "Hit" list

A hit for me was Cathe's 4 Day Split.
I was recovering from my C-section when these were first released so didnt get a chance to try them till recently. I regretted preordering these but finally worked my way up to a somewhat intermediate level and just started using them. Love it.

The big hit for me this year was Leslie Sansone. I had never liked these before but this year they clicked and I have been using them regularly.
The second big hit was Jari following recommendations from VF and Cathe's site. Had the original Ripped got bored, but then got the others and really saw results. So Thank You to all those who recommended these.
I also like Christi Taylor's productions--Fit to Dance, Strength and Core Fusion, Total Core Pilates and Strength Training with Rob Glick.
I can't remember the misses because I traded them.
Just about all of the above I received in trades and I want to thank everyone for them.

It's not too early to tally up for me- I don't have any more workouts on the way, so my buying for the year has officially ended. I've had a good year because I've been very focused and picky- no more buying just to have new workouts coming in.

My most favorite hits of the year are Yoga
Eoin Finn's Yoga for Happiness2
Jill Miller's Shoulder ShapeUp, Hips Helper, and Core Synthesis DVDs
Rodney Yee's A.M Yoga for Your Week
Elena Brower's A.M. P.M Yoga for Beginners
Shiva Rea's Creative Core and Lower Body, and creative Core and Upper Body

Other hits-
Michael Olajide's Savage and Serene and AeroJump/Sculpt
Ilaria's Abs and Pushups, Powerstrike 5 and Bodystrikes
Squeeze Stronger
Strength and Core Fusion
Core Fusion Pilates plus
2 of the Dove Rose's workouts- I can't remember which?
On the Edge Fitness with Lauren Brooks
Quick Results Kettlebell workout with Franz and Joana Snideman
Kettlebell Revolution with Missy Beaver

So-so-
Art of Strength Santa Monica. I've only done it once, but I prefer Providence and Newport.

Misses-
Cardio Force, big time! Why did I hate this? I like Dove's workouts, and expected to like Cardio Force.
10 minute solution- Pilates on the ball with Lara Hudson. Another one I expected to like. I really enjoy Pilates on the Go on the Ball with Maria Leone, but I just didn't click with Lara's

I've forgotten some of my misses, but here's my list:

Hits
Kickbox Core Cross Train – Patricia Moreno - I get a lot of use from this one
Yoga Dance Fusion – Patricia Moreno
Play Ball - Patrick Goudeau
Firm Powerball workout
Savage & Serene - Michael Olajide
Viniyoga for Upper Back, Neck and Shoulders - this is the DVD for sorting out my shoulder
Fitness Fix intermediate - I use only some bits of this, but what I do does the trick
10 Minute Solution Pilates on the Ball - love the flexibility section
Rumble
Kung Fu Kickboxing

Misses
Tummy Trimmers - Kathy Smith - boring
Core Blast - Tracey Staehle - what a disappointment that was!

I'll probably update this later, but 1 hit for me surprisingly is a kickboxing workout. I hate kickboxing with the exception of a very select few. The FIRM's Pump, Jump, & Jab is high up there. It's really enjoyable for me. Oh, and Jeanette Jenkins' Crunch Kickboxing Party. SO fun.
I also really liked Tummy Trimmers, with Kathy Smith. Michelle Joyce's Drills Drills Drills (bellydance title) was really good. Oh, and Rodney Yee's AM Yoga For Your Week. Love the hip segment on that one.

ETA : Another hit - Jillian's 30 Day Shred. I was having success with the latest rotation I was doing with it, but then my back went out & I had to stop exercising for a while. I'll try it again when I'm able.

ETA again : All of the Star Trainers. LOVE them, absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE them. There may have been a couple of workouts on each DVD that were so/so, but each DVD had a couple of workouts on them that I just LOVED. Absolutely the BEST purchase of the year. No, they aren't super tough, but the fun factor is HIGH ! Oh, and did I mention I *L*O*V*E* these ?

ETA : A miss - Rania's Hipper Than Hip. GAWD, it's aweful. I didn't expect much for a Rania DVD, but I kinda liked Too Hip, so I thought this would be atleast some fun. Nope. It's bad.
Another one that's not really a new release, but new to me was Gilad's 45/45 Split Routine. I put it up on Amazon pretty darned fast. (it's still up there, apparently nobody else wants it either. LOL ) Just too 80s-ish to me which is surprising since I don't really care about that too much when it comes to Gilad. The workout just wasn't enjoyable either, and the strength work wasn't very challenging & there were no weights used. Bleh. Not much fun factor there either.

Hits for me:

Tracy Anderson Mat & Post Pregnancy workouts
Rodney Yee AM Yoga for Your Week
Core Fusions
Squeeze Stronger
Classical Stretch Season 5 & Essentrics
Original Buns of Steel
Cardio Barre
Margaret Richard All My Best

Misses:

Desi Bartlett 3 in 1 Total Body Fitness
Leslie Sansone 4 Fast Miles
I also tried a few "pink Firms" for the first time and found them all to be kind of boring and/or annoying--I wouldn't say they were terrible, though, just very underwhelming.

Overall I think 2008 was a fantastic year for videos, and despite a few turkeys I didn't make any really costly mistakes...doesn't get much better than that!

I don't keep a log but these three come to mind as hits:

- Work Out: One-on-One with Jackie
- Rodney Yee's AM Yoga for Your Week
- Leslie Sansone 5-day Slim Down

Can't think of any misses. Perhaps it's best that I've forgotten them.
