OK Here's mine...

I grew up in L.A. and some times I have been in the right places at the right times...

1. My earliest celebrity sighting: when I was 8 or 9, my family and I were at a restaurant when my mom saw her favorite soap star (at the time) Patsy Pease (sp?) from Days of Our Lives (she played Kim of Kim and Shane).

2. In high school, I was hanging out with some friends in a trendy part of town when Oliver Stone got out of his car and into a Jamba Juice. He said Hi to all us kids who were yelling to him how much we loved his movies.

3. I was in Hollywood one night when Jay Leno was doing his random interviews...we chatted with him but didn't end up on TV. He's a nice guy!

4. My Dad used to do interviews for an Ivy Leage college and one of the high schoolers he was interviewing at our house was Mayim Bialik (she played the title role on the NBC show Blossom and was a young Bette Middler in Beaches). I got to meet her and go to a taping of her show. Very big at the time.

5. Joey Gordon Levitt (from 3rd Rock From The Sun, The Juror, Angels in the Outfield) went to my high school and was in my Geometry class. He was also in a band with a close friend of mine in HS.

6. Some of my favorite authors I have been lucky enough to meet at readings and book signings: Nick Hornby, Hillary Carlip, Francesca Lia Block, Susanna Kaysen, Irvine Welsh.

7. Most infamous: I got to meet Ron Jeremy. If you know who he is, enough said.

Does Ani DiFranco waving to me once count?

I used to work in radio and TV so I've had a few brushes with celebrities.

Radio - Richard Simmons. Very nice guy, very, very hyper (it was 8am in the morning, 20 degrees outside and he had on his signature short, shorts).

The Judds - when they were performing together. Very nice ladies

Travis Tritt - country singer - did the morning radio show.

Wayne Newton - very nice and very tall. Got my picture taken with him and a kiss on the cheek

In TV I got to meet Mary Matalin (the republican wife of democrat James Carville). Very down to earth and a great sense of humor.

Armstrong Williams - african american columnist and TV show host of "America's Black Forum". Took a DC tour with him and some other folks from the station, very nice guy.

Stedman Graham - Oprah's former boyfriend. Very nice looking in person and very down to earth.

Robert Novak - I think he's on CNN. I thought he was rude and a little brash.

There's other folks I've met but I can't remeber their names.

Fun and Interesting Thread!

It's so neat to read everyone's brushes with celebrities!

I met Metallica (well, all except for Lars, who was arrested for mooning the audience that night) after a concert. I had a roadie boyfriend back then who got me backstage passes. I also met a couple of other "hair bands" from the early 90's that I'd be willing to bet most people don't know/remember--Firehouse and Warrant.

Roy Jones Jr. (the boxer) lived up the street from me when I was a teenager (my parents still live in that house, but he has long since moved away) and we'd see him playing basketball and on training runs all the time. My dad finally introduced himself to him one day as he was running by our house at 5 am with 2 rottweilers and a bodyguard.

My husband met a porn star once, at the airport---of course my hubby immediately knew who he was, even though most people in the airport didn't recognize the guy. Does that count??

I met Barbara Mandrell back in the 70s. She graduated from the same highschool that I graduated from. She came back to visit our music teacher.

Buddy Ebsen stopped by the restuarant that my brother worked in. Since we shared a vehicle, I had to pick him up and I that's then I got to meet this most gracious person.

I met former governer of CA Jerry Brown while he was still governer on a flight to CA.

The most famous person that that we have actual ties to is Nicolas Cage. My sister in law is married to his brother, Christoper Copola. Francis Copola is their uncle.

I REMEMBER FIREHOUSE!! I used to love that song "Love of a Lifetime". Warrant was kind of laughable...i still see the "Cherry Pie" video from time to time.

I used to LOVE Metallica until the whole Napster thing but that's another thread.

I've met quite a few famous people, most of them are authors or from bands I like but I have met a few actors as well. Technically the most famous of these is Dave Prowse aka Darth Vader and "The Green Cross Code man" who came to our school. The second most famous is Brenda Fricker, a few days after she won an Oscar for her role in My Left Foot. I was with my best friend Lynda in the ladies room of a local cinema when we met her (we were there first and met her on our way out and her way in.) She was really nice The other most famous person is Bruce Willis when we were in the Silver Spur Steakhouse at Disneyland Paris. He walked right past our table with his bodyguards, spoke with the manager (we presumed) and ate his meal in a private room upstairs.

I've also met a Doctor Who: Paul McGann back in my retail days. My SO and I love Doctor Who and Paul McGann came into the shop where we worked with his two little boys. They were adorably cute and polite and Paul and I talked about the movie and those fabulous candle sticks (and the set) that were part of the TARDIS set. He was so totally cool and very kind. For those of you who've seen the film and felt a bit unsure, try the audio dramas - they are all excellent and Paul McGann does a first class job as the Doctor. JMHO but I found Doctor Who people (actors, authors and anyone else connected) to be among the nicest in showbiz.

Of the authors, I've met my favourites were Philip Pullman (aka the Polar Bear man in our house) who has the best story tellers voice, and David Gemmell who I found inspirational and very entertaining. I've also met Anne Rice (polite, nice, interesting but don't dare to criticise her books unless you want a sharp telling off!) and Terry Pratchett who took the time to talk to everyone at the book signing I was lucky enough to arrange.

My SO has met loads of famous people, most of which he's met since he started working in Bath. Anthony Stewart Head is the one he bumps into the most but he's met other members of the BtVS cast as well as film actors and musicians.

Craig T Nelson, I've met him too, at an SCCA race, but I forgot about it until you mentioned him. Really there are so many celebrities around, I'm not surprised that a lot of us have met them.

I left one out. I met Penn Gilette of Penn and Teller in a bookstore once. He was not friendly.

When Mel Gibson came to Philly to shoot a movie, my mom and a bunch of her friends (all in their 60's and 70's) went downtown to spend the day trying to get a glimpse of him! They saw him, but they didn't actually meet him. See, you're never too old for a big fat CRUSH!

Rick Pitno - basketball coach for the University of Kentucky and now University of Louisville. He was very polite and even autographed a napkin for my Dad.

If you know anything about KY you know that basketball is HUGE and this was like meeting the president!
