My mother is slightly older than Hilary (she's 60) & also looks better now than she did in her 40s. Clean eating, smaller portions, & lots of yoga have transformed her body from one that also actually looks like Hilary's 'before' into I guess a yoga-fied version of H.'s 'after'. Due to her disability, I don't think she could bounce around & do TA like H. has, but becoming fitter & smaller has definitely improved her self esteem & quality of life.
My father cycles harder, faster, & better than my strong 31 year-old boyfriend & is generally more fit than most 20-something's. I taught him to snowboard when he was 50, he now goes riding WAY more than I ever do (although that's also a $$$ thing on my part).
I think the bottom line is that eating well & working out to the best of your abilities & then some is absolutely necessary for a happy & healthy life. All of this is even more important the older you get.
