The Forensic Genealogist series by Nathan Dylan Goodwin.
I love these and can not put them down. A modern day English genealogist investigating mysteries that involve the past also. He gets into trouble but not too violent.

I agree with Tiaga, John Sandfords Lucas Davenport or Virgil Flowers series. They are separate but connected.

You have hit all the others I would recommend.

Alrighty I think I have something to keep me busy for awhile. Thanks again for the selections, some I have already read and were great. Of the ones I didn't read yet, I picked 3 (for now)...John Sandford's Lucas Davenport Prey series, Robert Crais' Elvis Cole series and Dawn Lee McKeena's Forgotten Coast series. I have tagged a few others as well! I knew I could rely on VF!

If you like David Baldacci, he has a new series (although there are only 2 books so far) about a female FBI agent named Atlee Pine. She is a really well-developed character. The first book is better than the second, but they're both good.

Candice Fox has a series about an Australian detective named Harriet Blue and another series called Crimson Lake about a former detective named Ted Conkaffey.

LindaL, I love the new Atlee Pines series! I can't wait for the 3rd in the series!

Difit, I've read the Linda Castillo series too. They take place near my hometown!

Michael McGarrity, Kevin Kerney series.

Along with that is the 3 book series that actually leads up to the Kevin Kerney series. Books are Hard Country, Backlands and The Last Ranch which run from 1875 to the Vietnam War. The Kevin Kerney series starts after the Vietnam War.

McGarrity started writing the Kevin Kerney series first, then went back and did these 3 books.

Another suggestion is the James Lee Burke Dave Robicheaux series. He also wrote a series on the Holland Family. A lot of these on audio are narrated by Will Patton who does an awesome job.
