music geek roundup (sorry!)

This and that....upcoming music related releases/events

For fellow fans of the band The Police-Andy Summers documentary about the band called "Can't Stand Losing You" is coming out on dvd/blu ray on July 14th

The theater release was very limited, so I did not get to see it. I am eager to see it on dvd.

For any Grateful Dead fans (found this out for a friend...) AMC theaters are broadcasting live one of their last shows:

Are there any fans of Elliott Smith here? If you missed the movie documentary about him in theaters, it is being released on dvd July 17th. It is called "Heaven Adores You"

My DH and son loved it. I did not go to the theater, but I will watch it when we purchase the dvd.

Thank you, Sherry. I am such a music geek I will watch/read anything even if it's music I don't like. The Andy Summers and Elliott Smith documentaries will be must sees for me. Honestly, most of the movies I want to see are limited release so I rarely see anything in the show. The movies are in the theater for a week and then gone.

Thanks for the info! I really want to see the Elliot Smith documentary! I'm a music geek, too! I recently watched a documentary on Adam Ant on YouTube called "The Madness of Prince Charming." He's had a rough but fascinating life. I never knew he dated Heather Graham! It's an interesting watch...I recommend it if you like music documentaries!

Thank you both! I am glad I am not the only music geek here.

I love music movies and documentaries. I will post a list later.

Thanks for the heads up on the Elliott Smith documentary.

I recently watched the most riveting documentary Last Days Here about the lead singer of Pentagram. It's on Netflix streaming.

Thanks, adawn! I will check for that on Netflix.

The documentary about the 1960's studio musicians who played on umpteen huge albums (Beach Boys, Mamas and the Papas and more) called "The Wrecking Crew" is coming out on dvd shortly.

Lately I've been ordering CDs by classic country artists. They are new releases, but ones that you don't hear much about because the singers are no longer producing big hits. I recently bought new CDs by Dwight Yoakum, Jim Ed Brown, Don Williams and T. Graham Brown. They are all very good and I'm practically obsessed with the T. Graham Brown CD - it's FANTASTIC.

Gams- enjoy your cd 's!

Are there other fans of the music movie "The Commitments?" I love that movie! Anyway - the cast member named Glen Hansard who played the character Outspan has released wonderful music since the film-including solo cds and with his band "The Frames" and "Swell Season" He was in the movie "Once" which featured his lovely song "Falling Slowly." If you love that movie then check out the documentary "The Swell Season" about him and Marketa from the movie "Once"about their real life relationship and concert tour. You would also then enjoy their concert Dvd from the Pbs special "Live at The Artists Den."
