Just one unassisted pull up

How do these challenge things work anyway?

What kind of "prep work" should we do?

I realllly want to be able to do one.....

Oh gosh, I was thinking you'd challenge us to do tons. whew! lol Last I checked, I could do 3 at most, but it's been months. Do as many assisted as you can before trying to not use the chair (or whatever assistance you use). You definitely have to work the muscles involved. I did the workouts in P90X, but didn't have the proper equipment for pullups so I used the bands, and I guess that was ok but not enough. I don't know if I'd be able to do more if I had the pullup bar. Anyway, this is one of those exercises that you have to practice in order to finally do it right.

I got some useful info from here

Hmpf. Well, as I posted in the pushup thread, these are my nemesis. I have done ONE completely unassisted, dead hang pullup in my life. One. That was over a year ago during my P90X rotation.

OK, so how DO these challenges work??? I'm totally game.

ETA: Ooops, OK, for grins and giggles, I tried to do a pullup tonight, and did it. Then I tried to do another, and did it. So, um, OK. Still up for a challenge, though - I want to do more.

Another way to assist is to use the chair for the up part, and then let yourself down without it. I'm game!! I totally suck at pullups!

We need some guidelines/definitions: Is it Pull-up or Chin-up (the later is easier, because the biceps help more).

What is considered a "full pull-up"? I would assume it's "chin over the bar."

I can do dozens of those. Of course, the bar is on the floor!

So you like to set the bar low?

I found the only way I could do pull ups is to lose about 10 lbs and frankly, I'm not sure I'm up to that right now....

Chinup I can do as singles but only when I've not preexhausted the musles with something else. They're really hard but when you finally get your chin over the bar you can do leg lifts for a nice ab challenge.

Chins work well to build up for pull ups but to build up to chins I would use assistance to get to the top of the bar then very slowly (increase the count each time you do them) let yourself down.
