Glad it wasn't as bad as you expected. Females in general are weak in the upper body compared to men. But yeah, it makes no sense when so many instructors seem to overwork the shoulders in their workouts.
Do you alternate the style of lifting that you do? Heavy vs Light, etc. Maybe you need a change, whether type of exercise or method? Body weight or kettlebells? Or, just cross training with something different.
