Roku vs Apple TV

I have a much older version of Apple TV and it is getting extremely frustrating to stream from my iPad or iPhone. It keeps quitting on me or doesn’t even connect sometimes. I want a little better platform so I’m thinking of upgrading. Wondering if the problem is just because the Apple TV is old?? I think it’s a 3rd generation. I was wondering if I should get a new generation Apple TV or go for. Roku? The only benefit of an Apple TV would be streaming from my devices which I’m hoping a newer generation would be much better at. Any opinions? Thanks!

I have been loving my Roku over the past few years! It has been streaming Cathe Live seamlessly up until more recently but the issues seem to be on Cathe’s end. I also use it for YouTube workouts and it’s great! I have it connected to a Samsung TV.

I have a 3rd generation Apple TV and also the latest Apple TV. My 3rd generation does not give me any problems with streaming. If you have not already done so, have you updated to the latest OS that your Apple TV will support? Have you reset your Apple TV and reconnected to the internet? I use mostly Apple devices and love using Airplay with my iphone, ipad and Apple computers. I like my new Apple TV mainly because I download movies to it and take it with me when I am traveling. I also have a Roku and Firestick that do not not give me any problems with streaming (except the Roku recently with Cathe Live)

The ROKU will get more updates than a smart tv.
Our ROKU Express plays better than streaming on my laptops with FIOS

Love my Roku TV - looking into getting a smaller one for upstairs.

Vote for Roku, as well.

Consider the option of any tv and adding a ROKU device.

Love my Roku TV! As for cross-platform compatibility, I can access my Roku account on my laptop, iPad, and iPhone and watch whatever I want whenever I want.

I've had Roku devices for years and just recently bought a Roku TV which I love. My daughter has an Apple TV, not sure which generation. I plan on getting her a Roku TV for her birthday, that way she can have both. I think if you are accustomed to Apple TV you might prefer it over the Roku, especially since you have other Apple devices. They both offer similar content, so the big difference would be the user interface. I would upgrade your Apple TV if I were you.
