Exclamation How to make your own DIY hand sanitizer... (UPDATED)

Updated with better information:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hand-sa...make-your-own/

"Here's a list of required ingredients to make your own hand sanitizer:

2/3 cup of 90% (or higher) rubbing alcohol
1/3 cup aloe vera gel
5-10 drops of essential oil (optional)
Mixing bowl
Spoon
Funnel
Two-ounce spray bottle or liquid soap container
Masking tape and pen or marker for labeling the container (or adhesive labels)

Directions: Pour the alcohol and aloe vera in a bowl and stir until blended. Add several drops of essential oil and stir to help mask the smell of alcohol. Use the funnel to pour the eight ounce mixture into containers, then affix the strips of marked masking tape (or adhesive labels) to identify the bottles' contents.

Hand sanitizer doesn't kill all viruses, but it is effective against the coronavirus, Dr. Agus explained. The virus is protected by a shell, called an "envelope glycoprotein," which the alcohol scrambles. "When you take away the protective part of the virus, it dies pretty quickly," he said."

I saw this recipe today (Washington Post I think.)

2/3 c. rubbing alcohol
1/3 c. aloe vera gel
8-10 drops of essential oil (optional)

This makes a 60% alcohol solution which is what the CDC recommends.

That is exactly what I used to make DYI shower cleaner. It smells pretty much exactly like what I was purchasing at the store.

The stores were all out of sanitizer today and only had a small supply of rubbing alcohol. I appreciate the recipe and will load up on rubbing alcohol and aloe vera gel. I think we will be in this for the long haul!

The Walmart we go to was out of sanitizer and alcohol! And there's only been 1 announced case in my state... (Out of TP, too...)

My kids are heading off this weekend for a huge, 25-church youth retreat (in the same county as the one covid case). I've been drilling them about hand washing and not touching their faces!!

Thanks! I could make this one, with the essential oils optional. I'm allergic to them.

I saw this on a news site the other day. Looks like there is now a shortage of aloe gel. Surprise!!

Yep, I couldn't find aloe vera gel either. I didn't check on toilet paper, but what's the deal with that? Is there a shortage? Is this like a storm warning rush?
