I bought this style two Thanksgivings ago when they were having a big sale. I don't wear them on a regular basis, but I love them for hiking. I used to always wear hiking boots, but these provide a better grip and I feel more in control of my ankles when they can move freely. I tried running in them on asphalt and it was painful, however I think they would be great for trail running.

Thank you, Linda! I was thinking if I got some I would try them for some of my dog walks, probably the shorter two of the day. I wondered if running would be uncomfortable. I wear Altras for most of my runs so they're at least zero drop but I want that cushioning! Thanks for the tip on the sale. I will watch for one and decide then if I want to buy.

That flat profile (zero-drop?) is something I look for in shoes...do either of these (Altra or Zero) have any arch support?

Sorry I didn't answer this, Kerry. I wouldn't say Altras have arch support, no. Personally I didn't have any problems transitioning from running with arch support to running in Altras.
My only complaint about Altra is how fast the soles wear down.
