Dancing With the Stars- how many hours per day?

Okay, first I must confess that I don't watch Dancing With the Stars (or any primetime shows). But I was watching GMA this morning, and they had Joey Lawrence on there, talking about how being on that show got him into the best shape of his life. Now they're coming out with a book about it.

I'm just curious (and no, I'm not interested in the workout)... how many hours per day do the contestants practice, that gets them in that good of shape? 2? 3? 4 or more?

I'm thinking people are going to buy this book and expect to do the workout a couple times a week and look like a professional dancer.

I've heard some of them say that they practice 4 to 5 hours per day.

I would imagine it takes as much committment and practice time as any sport or dance profession. Professional ballet dancers take class for hours each day. Figure skaters practice for hours each day. I don't know about other sports, but I'm sure someone on here does.

I won't comment on the possibility someone might think they can look like a professional dancer without actual training that doesn't come out of a book.

I think it was just this last season... or maybe the one before... anyway, I remember somebody mentioning that they practice for up to 6 hours a day & they were upset with one of the contestants who wasn't putting in nearly as much time as everybody else.

ETA : My dance instructor has said she can tell who her best students are & they are the ones who practice hours a day in addition to her classes. I read on a couple of other bellydance sites that to really go far with your dancing you have to dance 4 to 6 hours a day atleast, and that's in addition to any exercises you might do such as pilates or yoga. I dance right now only about 2 to 3 hours a day on a good day. I want to do more, but I just don't have the time if I want to workout too. I'm not practicing at all today because I have a sore foot & have to go to dance class tonight, so I want to rest that foot before she puts us to work tonight.

ETA again : Btw, wish me luck. I start advanced classes tonight. They are significantly faster moving & tougher. I hope I can keep up. My instructor says I'll do just fine, but still I'm just a weetle bit nervous.

Very few of my students practice outside of class, but they are quick to complain when other students get moved up to more advanced classes. It's like anything else - you can't expect to get out of it more than you put in.

I believe they average 5-6 hours a day at least, maybe more. Keeping in mind that many of the stars are still working, so they have to juggle that in as well. And that soap star has to go back and forth between LA and NY for his work. IIRC, Emmit was here in Dallas for the most part during his time, plus having to travel around the world due to previous commitments.

But yes, if you watch you'll see their bodies changing and getting better and better (well, except for Master P maybe). Tia Carrera was I think the first season, she had a baby a couple of months before. She lost all her baby weight just from the dancing.

ROFL I'd forgotten about Master P.
