Fat % - Within BMI but still high fat %

I exercise consistently. I have for years. I do on average about 6-7 hours a week. I eat pretty good but not perfect. I like my sweets but I eat a lot of baked chicken, lots of veggies and fruit.

I'm 5'5" and weigh around 130lbs yet my body fat stays around the 34% on my Tanita scales. I think that's pretty darned high. I doubt the scales are wrong but that would be nice.

I've heard Dr. Oz discuss that some people can be in their BMI range and still be fat. I guess I'm one of them but I don't really understand why and how to get un-fat. lol genes? What do you think?

Sorry for the extra 1 - it is 34%

Umm. I'm not good at math, but I don't think you can be 134% fat. (Or anything else). Is there more to this equation?

I'm 5'5" and if I was 130 lbs I would be dancing in the streets, I don't care what Dr. Oz or anyone else said! But I agree the 134% bodyfat figure is definitely off somehow.

Something is wrong. That means that the whole you + 34% of fat from somewhere else is fat?

diddlydudette - If you're 34% bodyfat and you think it's a problem, you could improve your fat-to-muscle ratio by lifting heavier weights.

What is your strength training regime like?

I try and jog at least 5 days a week for an hour or hour and 1/2.

I do Firm/Jari Love or some other weighted workouts at least 3 times a week.

I keep busy physically for the most part.

For biceps I lift 12lbs, 10lb for overhead presses, etc.

One would think with that fat % reading that I don't exercise and I sit around eating Doritos and bacon cheeseburgers all day.

I guess I'm asking myself why you are so reliant on believing what this piece of equipment says?? My understanding is that unless it is a Hydrostatic Testing (Underwater Weighing), it's not that accurate.

MAYBE THIS LINK WILL HELP

OR THIS ONE..

I don't know if I trust those scales. I have one that has a "active" mode that you are supposed to use if you work out regularly. On regular mode mine says 22% fat, on active mode it says 13%.

The better question is do YOU think you need to lose fat?

I wouldn't say I was reliant but Dr. Oz did mention on the show that the Tanita scales aren't exact but give a good enough reading so that you get an idea of what your body fat % is.

I'll have to find a link where he talks about it.
