Winter Solstice 2019 & New Year 2020 Yoga/Qi Gong/Meditation Sadhana...All welcome!

May this Solstice and
Returning of the sun
Bring you love, magic, & starlight
~A Mid Winter Blessing

“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.”

A warm welcome to all who would like to participate in a Winter Solstice/New Year Sadhana. It’s a great way to finish the year and start 2020 off on a positive note!

Sadhana is a daily spiritual and/or physical practice. It’s not limited to yoga & can also include other practices such as meditation & Qi Gong. A sadhana is often 40 days, but can be any length you choose. You may also set an intention, focus, or goal if you wish. No rules and no pressure! Some of us will start on Winter Solstice, Dec 21, others on Jan 1. Please feel free to roll out your mat & share your Sadhana practices with us!

Hello & Happy Winter Solstice!

Day 1:
~restorative/yin yoga class - This was a lovely way to start my sadhana. It was listed as a restorative class, but also had a yin feel with a few longer held passive forward bends, hip openers, & twists.

I am aiming for 40 days, focusing on a more active practice with standing poses & wrist friendly flow. I’ve been doing mainly yin for quite a while so this will change things up.

Waves to all!

I’m really working on establishing a simple daily meditation practice. I’ll be practicing yoga 3-4 times a week.

Day 1: Ten minute meditation and yoga class

I have a few goals for this sadhana. First of all, I need to get back on board with healthier eating habits and "eating to live" versus the alternative. I will be exploring the use of sankalpa and meditation to support nutrition in a more mindful and yogic manner.

Second and third, my goal is to delve into different types of yoga other than restorative and yin, and get into my virgin and dust bunny DVDs.

Day 1 - Yoga Shakti Lunar Flow. in honor of the shortest day.

Jane - your adorable sloth avatar looks great for your meditation focus.

Day 2 I enjoyed Barbara Benagh's Yoga for Back Care, Rest and Restore to wrap up a gym workout and PT. After that I listened to the guided relaxation on Dr. Yoga House Calls while inverting.

Jan 4-1 1/2 hour yoga class at a local studio. This was my first time at this studio. This class was tough and a plank marathon.
Jan 5-I was feeling pretty good all day, got in a long walk and came home and suddenly just felt run down. I feel like I am getting a sinus infection. So rather than do yoga, I did some yoga reading as suggested by Beth. The two books I started reading are 40 Days to Personal Revolution and Journey of the Heart.
Jan 6-I stayed home sick most of the day. I went to the clinic and got meds. I read a chapter of both of my books (above).

January 12- 2 1/2 hours of shoveling then worked at PT job all day. A rough weekend for me. Not feeling any relief with sinus issues and headache so went back to the clinic Friday night. After I got home, I got sick with the stomach flu and was up most of the night in the bathroom. We got Ice and snow on Saturday so Sunday I had to shovel at home and then at the library. Then I worked 7 hours at my part time job. I was wiped when I got home. I am still not feeling very good nor am I sleeping good. Hopefully, this will pass soon. No yoga all weekend.

January 29-Meditation-I had work training off site from where I work. It was 8:30-5:00 for 3 days about 1 hour drive from me. Plus I had to work my PT job in the evenings. At the training, rather than sit with others at lunch, I went to another room and did quiet reading and meditation.
