I like gadgets, and want an Ipod, but don't know when I would ever use it. When do you all use your Ipods?

Abbe, I use it all the time at the gym. I use it for my own jump rope workouts. I use it for my own elliptical and spinning workouts. I use it before spin class starts (if I want to do a longer workout session then the class). Etc. So mostly for cardio.

Can you get 'regular' earphone for these? Meaning ones that don't have the ear bud deals? They never fit into my ears well.

I have this model from Sony for regular use

they are very comfortable...and you could change the silicone earbuds for better fit.

I also have the other ones that I got from Target for running, they are from Phillips - with the plastic clips.
(Target also have Sony earphones I mentioned but Amazon has a better price)

I hate ear buds, period. I prefer head phones ( the ones that go over the ears).

Alta, you might prefer the "over-the-head" type. Check out this model by Sony:

They're pretty light and sound decent. They actually go behind your head.
