Am I the only one who pays with a check?

I'm a dinosaur....one of my groups on facebook had a discussion about members who still pay for items ( in the sell swap) with checks. They followed it with a sentence stating those who did so possessed a lower level of intelligence than those who were"with it" and used Paypal etc. I'm sincerely asking if this is now an accepted opinion within buy/sell swap groups... I get the whole security & convenience issue, but I also understand that sometimes they are exceptions to the rule when in a private or closed vetted community. Tia...

I generally don't accept checks except from people I know personally (as in, in real life). If someone asks to pay with a check, I automatic assume nefarious intent (perhaps incorrectly, but still...)

The only people I pay with a check are my chiropractor and the yard man.

Thank you both for sharing. I wonder how much longer Mary at Totalfitnessdvds and places like QVC and HSN will accept this form of payment? My last 3 purchases from Mary were handled by check.

Ditto, haven’t written or received a check is ages. I pay for a lot of things, including massage & yoga classes, by etransfer. That’s also how I get paid for my Essentrics classes.

Last time I wrote a check was 4 years ago to the guy who painted my home. He requested it and I had to order them from the bank because I didn't have any. I also don't carry any cash and it drives my DH crazy! He's kind old-fashioned.

I still occasionally pay with checks. I keep some on hand if people ask for check payment. My well guy, my child's school, after care, etc. all request payment by check. I would even accept check payment through the swap/sell boards, as long as that person was okay with waiting until the check cleared. I would leave a group who assumed that paying with a check was for those with lower intelligence.

I always carry cash. Someone is always doing something for someone at work ("flower fund") or there's a lottery pool or football pool or for the snack machine or TOLLS so I always make sure to have cash on hand.

I pay for almost everything with credit card. I don't trust PayPal as both times my CC number was stolen was right after using PayPal. I write checks to the vet and church. I always have cash but not a large amount. Many places aren't accepting checks anymore around here (restaurants at least, not so much service companies).

I too would leave a group who said paying by check indicates lower intelligence. Seriously, where do they get off??

I probably write a half dozen checks per month - yesterday I wrote 2 - one to pay a medical bill and one to order a magazine subscription for my mom. I always carry a little cash because it seems like I go to the store often for one or two items I need for dinner and I also stop for a bag of ice 3 times a week.
