Exclamation "And this is why lurkers are afraid to post..."

I’ve seen this phrase here a few times lately and I find it a bit confusing (and annoying to be honest ). Apparently, this “lurker fear” is the main reason why VF has been so slow in recent years.

Now, why is it again that lurkers are afraid of posting on VF? Is it because we don’t reply to every single post every time? Is it because - heaven forbid - someone might disagree with you? Is it due to the “mean girls” core group that shuns everyone else?

I haven’t looked at the VF guidelines in a while, but I haven’t seen one that states that we all have to agree with each other all the time. It does have something about being civil with disagreements.

What kind of delicate flowers are out there that cannot handle a disagreement? In the real world we have partners, spouses, bosses and kids (especially kids) who may rarely agree with us. Do we hide away?

I believe that there are lurkers who are quite happy to enjoy this forum without posting and that is great.

If you are a lurker and afraid to post, tell us why.

If you are still afraid to post, I’ll take the blame. It’s all my fault!

I mostly lurk (every day) but I do occasionally post. I have never felt intimidated or disrespected or even ignored. My posts may not get a lot of responses but I attribute that to different interests or experiences, not that I am being shunned for some reason.

And you're one of my favorites, Vintage VFer.

I remember my very first post back when the Firm Believers forum was up and running. I had this fear that EVERYONE on the planet was reading what I wrote. I later learned that, frankly, many posts are ignored!

and alta, you are NOT on my ignore button!

Long time lurker here! I’ve been a forum member for about five years. I read the forum almost daily but only post occasionally. I suppose the reason I don’t post is because I only use a few instructors and they aren’t often the topic of discussion. I’ve thought about joining a check in a few times. I could talk about my workouts all day. Lord knows my family doesn’t want to hear it lol. I’ve never felt intimidated. I know a lot of my posts don’t require a response. I’ve learned a lot here and have found some great instructors I never would have found without VF.

Welcome! I would love to discuss any lesser known/used instructors anytime!

All the checkins are welcoming if you decide to join one.

Another routine thread killer reporting in and no, I never took that seriously!
I just don't have the spare time I used to back when I was homeschooling. And I mostly use the same 6 or so instructors I've used since the 90s-early 2000s. I'm a videofitness dinosaur.

Lol Alta & cataddict, not your fault! I agree all have a right to differing opinions, but from my perspective it’s not productive or helpful when disagreements get nasty & personal. I tend to back away when threads get contentious as I don’t think there’s anything to be gained from personal attacks. I don’t post often in GD but I do read the threads. I generally prefer to stick to my check in where I pretty much post daily.

I don't post all that often but I do read every day and post whenever I feel I have something to contribute. It doesn't stop me if no one responds or if they disagree. It's all good. I do like to read a good train wreck thread once in awhile but I know it really isn't helpful when things turn that way.
