TA + TA cardio (20min)

we did get to eat with DD and her BF - we sit at opposite ends of a really long picnic table in a park to socially distance. but it's good we get to catch up on what they are doing.

buzzer - I've been measuring portions since I started working with the headache naturopath so it hasn't been too tough to figure out calories. I made a little spreadsheet of the foods I eat the most (I'm pretty repetitive but that's probably typical) so for days I eat at home it will not be hard to keep track. I think once I get started I'll have a pretty good sense of where I'm at then I probably won't need to track every day. Sorry about the 'friends' that's tough that the daughter is so difficult.

ebianco - yeah it's been just one thing after another. hope it smooths out soon. glad you knee is happy!

Cathe Gym Style Back, Delts and Bis... DONE!

I took more rests and went heavy. It was awesome! I was pleasantly worn out in those muscles and a bit tired/sore for the morning. This morning I can tell I worked out! I love that. I hate having a good workout, or what I thought was a good workout, and then the next morning nothing. No soreness or uncomfortableness. So it was good!!

I went to 25's for the back, 20's for the overhead presses, and 20's for the biceps, but I did a 2 up/2 down cadence and used her bonus on her first set as a separate set. I have to wonder if Cathe was using the workout as her own workout, because if you can do a set of back exercises for 8 reps for 2 sets, there's no reason in the world you should be able to use the same weight on the third set and do 12 reps. Or for biceps. or any muscle! You should use a weight that you can't do any more at for the 8 reps, then if you want to do a set of 12, drop your weight. You shouldn't be able to do it. I think Cathe chose a weight too light for her, so she would decide to do bonus reps of a slower cadence or more reps.

Just my thoughts. Sometimes the way she says it "let's go for 12 this time!!" it seems spur of the moment because it's for her, not for your workout.

So, I did it my way, and used her bonuses as a third set, and when she decided to do more, I did what I could.

Yesterday was a more low key day. I tooled around the house, cleaned, we practiced violin, and watched a movie. Then LB's friends were out so she went over there, and spent a few hours. Today the other kids may be coming over here, as long as they stay outside. We will probably be working on the garage all day. We have the foundation mostly built, so this week DH hopes to have it inspected then next week we can get concrete in it!!

Step by Step!!!

Eventmom: glad you got some time with your daughter! All our visits with everyone seem to be long picnic table distance. It's annoying, and although I'm not a big people person, I still feel lonely even though I have seen people!! Glad you got to see her and talk to her though!

Ebianco: I haven't done tortoise or hare in forever. I used to rank those as some of my favorites, too so it's weird I haven't!
I did one round of body beast when someone sent me copies. I seem to remember I enjoyed it. I did it all with my weight bench though, so step ups and decline pushups were super hard I remember. I think this time I would use my step! I remember pausing a lot and going at my own pace. I know they were hard, but I didn't lose weight or notice any change in tone. It was fun and a challenge, but apparently nothing I have thought to go back to. For $15, I'll try it again.

I worked yesterday on logging calories and water. I did great with the water, OK with the calories. I am not sure of the target, since yesterday I lifted heavy, picked up pinecones so I was walking around the yard, picking up pinecones, walking them to the fence and throwing them over into the road or neighbors ditch. That makes me wonder if I overeat or undereat, because on days like yesterday (and a few days over the last week) I burn a lot! I'm gonna try it though and see what happens!! Can't hurt, right?

Hi everyone,

Today I finished my workout week with Firm Aerobic Butt Busters the warm up and step cardio sections, which turned out to be about 17 minutes, then Pure Barre Resistance 4 the whole thing, which I chose because it was shorter, all together about a 60 minute workout. I was really spent from yesterday and my overall workout week, so the cardio really got my heart rate up and the Pure Barre was really tough. Even though I don't think it's an especially tough PB workout. All I can say is yeah for two rest days!

Eventmom and Buzzer I'm not using a calorie app or anything, but am also trying to be MUCH more conscious of my portion sizes and the quality of my food. I know that's ultimately much more important than the actual workouts.

Buzzer I was so charmed with Firm Tortoise and Tracie that I decided to look at some of her other offerings. Most aren't exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm glad to feel inspired again. I can't wait to see what else I can rediscover in my workout collection.

I am glad you have the Firm step this time for Body Beast!

20 min yoga before I took my horse to a jumping lesson, then around 20 minutes more yoga to stretch after. Decided I only like one of the yoga practices on the Caribbean Aerobics yoga dvd but that's enough of a reason to keep it.

ebianco - I think I need to track calories to figure out where I'm at. I was sometimes waking up at 3 or 4 am hungry so that is not workable. I was probably not eating enough calories most days as I'm aiming for 1600 per the calculators now and was falling short if I stuck to what I thought was a correct eating program. Of course, we'll see if I can actually lose weight. But I can't imagine doing this long haul.

buzzer - yeah, it's so weird. I have no idea how the university is going to handle things in that fall, I know what they say but to actually do it?

Rest day... DONE!
Body Beast Chest and Tris... DONE!

I needed that rest day! However, I didn't rest. We went to a nursery and I got some vegetable plants and pots for our greenhouse that should arrive tomorrow, then I helped DH on the garage. I twisted wire around rebar, which meant I was up and down, basically did about 100 surrenders in about a 2 hour period. I guess that counts!!

I looked at my Cathe, but decided to do BB since I got it on eBay for $15 and I want to make sure all the workouts work and aren't spliced with porn part way through. So I did Chest and Tris, since with Cathe it would have been chest and tri day anyhow!!

It was great! I went heavy, and had to back off a few times. I actually met Sagi on some of his low weights. I am very weak in my triceps apparently, because 10's as my low weight were fine. I am horrible at tricep pushups, so I did the first set on my high step, set 2 on the floor, and set 3 half on the floor half on the step. For my decline pushups, I liked them much better on the high step than on the bench!! It was a sweaty workout, I rested more than he did (I took a few looooong rests) but overall I loved it!!

He miscounted a few times, and it drove me nuts that he would do his reps slower and more controlled, but his background guys were speeding through them. At one point he basically says "Stop. Now everyone start at the bottom and go up, then down" and tries to slow them down. Didn't work well, but he tried. I paused a bit more because I would be finishing up when they were already done.

I also laughed that pushups were in his warmup. To me, that's a workout!! HA!

Eventmom: Glad you got to go to a jumping lesson!! LB's violin teacher is starting lessons back at her house this month, but with all the cleaning protocols in place, masks, and distancing rules, I don't know if it's worth it. However, I do need help making sure her fingers are in the right place and everything is how it should be, so we will do it. I'm glad lessons for both of us are back though!

Ebianco and Eventmom: I have a Fitbit so I am logging in their app. So far, two days I"m doing ok. A bit over both days, but not by much (maybe 75-100 calories) but I am not too concerned because I have been more active than the "moderately active" she said to put into the activity level, and her program only has you exercise for 10-15 minutes. I'll see how it goes. At least it'll make me more aware of what I am eating and how often! My goal is the water. I am logging my water because although I try, I truly don't know how much I drink. So far, I'm finding I don't drink enough!

Ebianco: I love shopping my own collection! I am at the point right now where I can. It used to be I shopped total fitness, now I shop my own collection!!

stretch day - essentrics 30 min stretch

well I've got to go out in the world today - eye doctor and so a couple of other errands. feels weird!

buzzer - it is interesting to log my calories I've never it before. it's hard to know how many calories my workouts are vs. the 'moderate' active the calculators use. But I think I've got to give it a couple of weeks not a couple of days!

Body Beast Build Legs.. DONE!

I liked this! I am disappointed in how I did, I started out with my vest on and 8 pound weights in each hand for squats, then just dropped to vest only for most of the workout. I finally grabbed more weights for calf raises, but I was just tired and my legs were sore to begin with. I don't know if they were sore from my chest and tris workout, or from doing stuff around the house, from working on the garage, or what. Didn't start out well though.

So our sweet puppy broke his leg. I am mostly beside myself. It was a total freak accident. I wasn't there, but I heard an animal in obvious pain, went out to investigate, and he was draped over the fence and I thought he was dead. A guy walking by said he got his back leg caught in the fence and fell over the middle railing (split rail fence with poultry wire on it). It's a complete fracture. The bone is broken to 90 degrees. The amount of pain that little guy was in must have been horrible. He was a total trooper though, he didn't bite me when I touched it lightly to investigate, he just mouthed me. Now knowing what I know, I would have bit me. So that little guy really is amazing.

The guy was able to help me get him into the back of my car, and LB pet his head all the way to the vet. This happened Monday, and the orthopedic surgeon wasn't available to fix him until today, Wednesday. So he's been sitting at the vets with a broken leg, on pain killers and sedated. I am so heart broken. I spent yesterday going around all 2.2 acres of fence pinning it up, straightening it, and reenforcing it in case the problem was because part of the fence is loose.

I am just grateful that today he gets fixed, and tomorrow we can have him home again. I have cried so many tears over this little guy! I just got rid of the ugly, smelly rug (even when it was at it's worst though, it was matted, stinky and so dirty I don't think I remember what color it was) and now, he can't be on wood floors during his recovery so I had to buy a new rug. HA! Teach me. There was a huge one, 8'x11', on Walmart, so I got that. Biggest, cheapest. If LB wants it in her room afterwards, I will put it in there. Otherwise, when the garage is done I can use it on the floor there to make it a little homey in there.

LB has never been more sad. She was hysterical throughout the whole thing, but I would ask her to do something, and she would do it. She would be crazy crying, but she would do it. The older dog came out to see what's up and he put two and two together in his fuzzy head, I think he determined the man had something to do with it, he leveled his head, dropped his ears and just growled at him. I was happy the dog was protecting the puppy at least.

Anyhow, It's been rough. So I think all that, I ate pizza and ice cream for dinner ("we are sad eating" as LB said), and didn't drink enough because of all that, made for a bad leg workout.

Today is back and bis, and I debated doing a fun cardio instead, but I think I will push through this week and see if I want to do this rotation back to back lifting, or take more time and add in cardio every now and then. I love to lift, but don't want to completely destroy myself.

I also got in the exercise of pinning the fence. I swung that hammer about a million times pounding in the tacks, and did about 100+ more surrenders sitting on the ground while I was pinning in the tacks, and getting up to move to the next part I had to tack about 2-3" away. I think I did enough exercise!

Eventmom: I have never truly logged calories before either. I worked for EAS (a supplement company) years ago, and they had an eating plan of palm sized protein, fist sized carb, and pinkie size fat for each meal. I think it was a good guide, and since I am crap at counting calories, if I struggle too much I will go back to that plan. I didn't log the last 2 days because of what we've been going through, I know I am waaaaay over. Today is surgery day, so I am going to try to do better and count. Get back on track.

My clothes are definitely tighter this summer So I need to do something. Maybe between body beast and counting calories, I will fit into them by the end of summer

Ebianco: waves! I hope you are doing well and your knees are holding up! I was looking at total fitness, because I need more workouts like I need another hole in my head, and I saw some new Linda's. A quarantine workout, and another one that was like lonely apartment living or something like that. I was so tempted!! I need to do my Linda's though, not buy more!! HA!

yesterday - TA + 20 min cardio I found on youtube
today - TA + TA DC popstar

buzzer - that eating program sounds pretty solid and would likely be close to what you're aiming for with calories.

Hi everyone,

Started my workout week today with Firm Bootcamp 3-in-1, which for some crazy reason I have never done, or I think I did it once years ago and decided I didn't like it, but decided to try it again today. My original plan was to do the whole workout less the first stretch and abs and second warm up. But it was mostly strength and not much cardio, just a brief "ball prep" cardio at the beginning of each of the two workouts. So I ended up doing mostly just workout 1 plus the extra ball prep on workout 2. For my future reference, I marked this one as a mostly strength workout that would be good in two workouts as designed. They were good about hitting all of the muscle groups in each workout so that's great.

Edited for Thursday: Simone rebound and Pure Barre Sculpted Abs 2 warm up through seat. I was a sweaty mess! About a 50 minute workout.

I am sure to have an active recovery tomorrow, Firm Tortoise again on Saturday, LOL, and rebounding and barre again on Sunday.

Eventmom I felt very disoriented going out to the dentist a few weeks ago and to the doctor earlier this week. Going out into the world like you said Feels very different now! Exciting in a sense but also not sure what to expect. The doctor office building didn't even let me walk into the building without checking my temperature and making me use hand sanitizer, and then they checked my temperature again at the actual office.

Buzzer What a traumatic situation about your puppy!! That is a crazy break in the bone! I'm sure it was especially upsetting for LB. My doggos are my kids and I would be frantic as well, if something like this happened to one of them. I'm glad his bone was corrected today and he can come home. ((HUGS))

I'm glad you're enjoying Body Beast! I think you go heavier for your upper body than I do!

Good job on using your Fitbit to log calories. It definitely all (or at least 95%) comes down to diet anymore, especially as you get older. My sisters call me "the fish" because I can drink so much water, all the time. LOL!! That is one diet skill that comes easily for me

FYI that Lindas quarantine workouts are available on youtube, the other set isn't. I enjoyed the two I did, but not enough to warrant purchasing the DVD. But just in case you decide to try them out!

today- TA + TA DC (popstar)

buzzer- I'm so sorry I didn't ask about your sweet puppy last checkin - I hope he is doing okay and I'm sure he's happy to be home.

ebianco - I had several errands yesterday and it felt odd to be out and about. But I did shop a local resale store (dropped off and found a shirt) it's just feels weird and I realize how tired those types of errands make me.
