[QUOTE=angie_nrs;2714045]I wouldn't be so sure about that. I'm sure some folks thought their vinyl wouldn't be worth anything either after cassettes came out. Well, if you had the good stuff on vinyl (Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Elvis, etc.) , you'd be very happy right now. Same with cassettes, after CD's came out.....some of the hairband rock cassettes are going for big bucks now.

Some folks (like me) appreciate the simplicity of VHS and DVD. I have old TV's and VHS/DVD players that I paid next to nothing for that I just need to store. I've got lots of space to do that, so I'm lucky. Everything becomes vintage sometime........the older I get, the more 'vintage' treasures I own. I figure, if it ain't broke....why fix it?

We still have two working VCR's and cassette players We are a house of music geeks, and I can tell you that old vinyl is definitely worth money. Newer vinyl or old vinyl being resold in stores is very pricey. Record Store Day is a holiday in our house-my DH and son have a list of what they are looking for. New releases are coming out on vinyl now in addition to cd and of course costs upwards of $20 (sigh).....

I have two brand new, unopened DVD players, plus the one I'm using now. I don't burn copies of my DVDs, but I'll replace discs as needed if anything happens to them. I think we'll be able to find DVDs online for many years to come. I mean, you can still buy VHS tapes and cassette tapes on Amazon and eBay...

My DVD player takes USB input but haven't ever done it - so not sure if it needs MP4 or a single .iso on a flash drive; but I've been collecting .iso files as a digital backup.
Different devices prefer different formats.
My cheap dvd player with a USB plays avi files and dvd movies.
Never tried to use its USB yet because I have so many dvdrs with edited avi videos. I believe the USB may also prefer avi.
The USB on our newer HD TV will only play MPEG format on a flash drive.
The USB on the older HD TV does not play videos.

newer Windows pcs/laptops with dvd drives may need a media player like VLC downloaded to play a dvd movie.
I would only buy a laptop with a dvd drive but an external dvd drive may be another option.

I store video files from ripped dvds and downloads privately on various video sites, mostly VK.com and mymail.ru.
More and more I am using these files instead of a dvd.
