I'm glad you found what works, DawnP! That's a great psoas stretch, I'm going to have to bookmark Yuri's page. I love the dogs in the video.

Another thought - have a podiatrist check your foot alignment and compare the length of your legs. Improper foot alignment throws off the whole chain and can cause a lot of back pain.

Wishing you the best in finding relief.

thanks everyone, I'm going to try psoas stretches (although this pain is in a different area then when I've had past issues with psoas).

Here's the information I found on YouTube for rhomboid tendonitis that might also be helpful; the stretches target more between the shoulder blades:

Thanks, all, for the psoas links. I’ve been suffering with paoas, hip, back, and hip flexor issues for months. After seeing a spinal specialist MD, physical therapist, and massage therapists, i succumbed and am now seeing a chiropractor who seems to know what she’s doing. A female . I definitely will check out the psoas yoga video.

I've had a locked up feeling on and off for a couple of months mostly on the right side. Chiro pops out my back and I instantly feel better but sometimes I feel that area tightening up the next day. She told me to stop gluten which I did for a while but when I got locked up again after several weeks I figured, Why am I depriving myself of pancakes?

continued intermittent mid-back pain

I'm still experiencing intermittent mid-back pain, mostly "crawling" pain under my left wing, even doing lots of yoga & stretching - it's now week 5.

I'm now on steroids, continuing with the yoga & stretches and awaiting some physical therapy appointments. I'm hoping that I can get some relief and exercising tips.

It's hard to get through a workday, let alone even think about holiday cooking or crafting. I am missing out on a lot of my fave hobbies!

I do appreciate the advice of my supportive VF friends!

I had trigger point injury/ situation in the area between my spine and lower left shoulder blade that lasted for weeks. After trying PT and a couple of different medications with no lasting relief I had lidocaine shot in the nerve. It felt weird for a few days but it got the muscle to stop spasming which helped stop the nerve from firing. The pain was gone and hasn't come back since.

Sabine, how did you get the medical professionals helping you to understand the need for the shot? I am reluctant to seek any kind of medical treatment myself because it would be so hard to explain the problem and I fear just being dismissed.

I'm so sorry you are still in pain. I would like to still recommend looking into Barbara Benagh's Yoga for Stress Relief (the Passive Upperbody premix on it). This DVD is a VF favorite for good reason. As a restorative yoga DVD, it is different from may other yoga routines, and this DVD offers a number of premixes each to target a specific problem. For me, if I have anything going on anywhere on my upper body, that Passive Upperbody routine will resolve it completely after 2 or 3 times doing it, with significant relief after one session. This includes times I have had a major knot in between my shoulder blades on my dominant side, shooting pains down my arms, or severely restricted movement. The routine is very safe as long as you go slowly and gently, and everything about it encourages you to do just that.

If you decide to try it, you will need a blanket that you can roll up and a bolster-type of thing (and a yoga mat if you don't want to lie directly on the carpet.) I just a throw blanket like you get at Target to keep on your couch and a large Ikea throw pillow.

Anyway, I hope you figure this out soon.
