Can you recommend a pull-up bar?

I have decided I am going to train to do pull-ups this year!

Thanks for the inspiration Melissa! ( see: http://fitmiss.tv/ April 21)

Can anyone recommend a pull-up bar? Can I just go buy one at Walmart?

We have the original Iron Gym Pull Up Bar that we bought from Bed Bath and Beyond for around $20. Iron Gym now has an extreme model for even more hand positions which I would really like to have.

My husband uses it alot and likes it, it's really sturdy and just fits inside a standard door frame, it's super easy to take down and put up.

I don't have it but I thought this one looked nice: Assisted Chin-Up Station

I personally love my FlowBar but you can't do real unassisted pullups with it, although you can make it harder by putting your feet up on a chair.

I was looking at pull-up bars in Dick's Sporting Goods on Weds. They had a Go Fit one for $9.99 but I don't know ANYTHING about it. I was wondering if it was any good...

ETA: it was THIS one

That looks like any old pullup bar that fits into brackets you drill into the doorway. I'm sure it's just fine if you don't mind either leaving it in place or taking it down every time (my tall husband set me straight on leaving it there).

I just bought the Iron Gym and really like it.

I got mine at Dick's. It installs in a door frame. I love it!

The one I bought in 1999 looks exactly like the Iron gym one. I recommend it highly. I learned to do chin-ups using it. You need a standard size door, though, for this one to work.

I just bought the Iron Gym....absolutely love the design BUT I have crown molding above all my doorways (yes, even INSIDE the closet doors-I checked) so can't use it. I'm so bummed.

I have the Perfect Pullup Bar. Can't remember where I got it but it wasn't expensive. I like the swivel handles that came with it. We mounted it between the rafters in our basement and it has brackets so you can lower it for different exercises. It also came with ab straps. I use it with my Iron Woody Assisted Pullup bands.

I initally wanted the Iron Gym bar, but we don't have a doorway in the workout area in my basement.

Thanks Bliss for posting this.....my oh my these both look good, but since I already have a TRX, I'll mostly likely go for the GoFit assisted chin-up station
