Jungle Gym vs. TRX?

Does anyone know the difference between these 2 devices? I see that the TRX has an extensive media library. Also on the TRX site they seem to place more emphasis on the ability to do cardio moves with it. But based on the photos and video clips they look virtually the same in how they function. Is there any real advantage to the TRX? Can you use the TRX dvds with the Jungle Gym?

TIA! :sun:

(ETA: I would not be mounting the device to the ceiling. I would use the door attachment.0

Cross-post from other thread:

I don't have any of the TRX DVDs because they are expensive. I also don't use DVDs that just use one piece of equipment very often (except for kettlebells). However, I have looked at the TRX site and I could do all the movements from the clips. The important thing is to buy the Jungle Gym with the footstraps. They also sell them without the foot straps. However, you won't be able to do all the plank moves, e.g. mountain climbers, pikes, etc. without the straps.

This is the site where I bought the Jungle Gym. I bought the cheaper version since I don't weigh that much (115 lbs) so I didn't feel like I needed the heavy duty version. I also knew that my husband would not be using it. If I thought he might, I would have bought the JG 2.

This is a link with a DVD by J.C. Santana:

I don't have this DVD either. But I did see a clip of it and it looked really good. I will see if I can find an earlier post that I wrote two years ago where I gave a link to the clip.

Here is a clip of JC Santana JG DVD:

This site also has a deal where you can buy the Jungle Gym 2 and Santana's DVD for $100. I think that's a pretty good deal. Santana's DVD alone sells for $45 while the JG 2 sells for $75.

Thank you for all of your helpful information! I did a few google searches and i think the jungle gym would be great for me. The main difference seems to be craftsmanship/durability. Since I will be the only user it seems worthwhile to save the $$ for additional workouts.

Thanks so much for your help, Helen!

Adrien, you're welcome. That's the same reason why I bought the JG. I wanted to save money. The only thing that I would have done differently is buy the $100 JG2 and Santana DVD sale. I would have had a stronger JG (which I don't need) but also a DVD. Also Perform Better used to offer the TRX Express DVD for $20 but now it's $35.

Actually, I don't think the JG2 set includes the foot straps. So, if I order them separately on the Lifeline site i would end up paying and additional $29.95 + $9.95 s/h. So if you figure $99 + $11 s/h for the JG + DVD, then another $40 to get the straps, it really wouldn't be less than the TRX. (Since there is a 20% discount in effect right now.)

hmmm...decisions, decisions... ;)

You're right. You do have to pay extra for the foot straps for JG2. I didn't know that the TRX site has a 20% discount. Is that automatic or is there a discount code that I have to enter? Maybe, it's about time I buy a DVD.

As a side note, because of the latest TRX threads, I did use my JG today for AHB Sculpt 1. Instead of using my gliding discs for knee tucks and snow angels (these are plank ab moves), I used my JG. It's a lot tougher that way. I would never consider using my JG for Insanity as somebody else suggested in another thread. Insanity is tough enough.

Unfortunately, the discount is only for the home bundle & nothing else. (Believe me, I tried to make it work on other stuff!) I read that some Vfers were able to make it work on other items, so it might be worth trying!

TRXSELF

I signed up for their mailing list in case they offer other discounts from time to time. I have to admit though...from viewing clips I decided that the Santana JG2 DVD is the one I really want! It makes the TRX dvds look like a good deal, since it sells for $45-50!

Thanks Adrien for the discount code. I like the looks of the Santana DVD too. There is also a bundle package of three DVDs where he shows some unique stuff to do with a SuperBand (like a WoodyBand) and tubing. I hope somebody else answers your question.

WOW! That DVD does look good and I think it's 2 workouts on one????? Maybe that makes it worth the money?

I just ordered the TRX. But the DVD on this site look good (to me, better than the TRX dvd's . . . just based on the clips). Maybe if I fall in love with the equipment, I'll take the plunge on this one. I feel like I saw lots of exercises on the Santana clip that I didn't see on the TRX site. At one point in the clip he says "This is so much fun" and he really seems to be having fun.
