2 Teens Hospitalized After Doing 1,000 Squats Each

I saw this on TV this morning:
https://www.livescience.com/66054-te...is-squats.html

It reminds me of a story one of my fitness class instructors told us some time back. There was a woman who was taking her first spin class and apparently she overdid it big time. She also ended up with rhabdomyolysis and, if I remember correctly, she actually died!

I think my butt hurts just thinking about that. But good article! I would never do that man squats but good to know about the extremes. Thanks for posting.

1000 reps of anything isn’t good, neither is super long extended time holding a pose. I’ve never, ever seen good results from exercising like this yet it seems many trainers are uncreative and feel it’s better to OD on the same damn thing than try something new, body awareness be damned. I know someone who planked themself into a hernia during a pt session of unending planks and pushups. The body has a certain threshold meant not to be overextended, pain signals are there for a reason.

I don't know that I had much more sense at that age, though, to be fair!

I probably still don't. I can see people doing 1000 rep challenges.

Not exactly the same because of variations but there are 1000 rep workouts out there. For example, here's one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXz8y5isljM&t=10s

Linda only mentions variations to keep from getting bored, not for safety: "You will do 100 reps per exercise for a total of 10 exercises to give you a 1000 rep workout! So that there is no boredom factor there will be variations for each exercise so you won't be doing straight reps."

Not surprised with all the extreme workouts and fitness challenges that have been popular for a solid 10 years now. My PT friends still continue to see tons of injuries from Crossfit and similar knockoff programs. There are lots of 1000 rep challenges out and plenty of trainers promoting them. BJ Gaddour had a 1000 rep cardio workout at some point.
