#cellfies

why didn't something like this exist when i was a teen?!

other than the obvious lack of cell phones at that age...

for those that don't have the time ...

it's a very body positive article focusing on cellulite

an extraordinary thing to see in a "teen" magazine

I seem to remember the ones when I was growing up pushing impossible body images
*bleh*

Hence the combination, from "cellulite selfies."

I don't find this sort of thing extraordinary in a current "teen magazine," if only because--for one reason or another--even mainstream society has noticeably improved its treatment of body image for young people. VF has the occasional thread about body image and young people, and no one who posts there hopes for their teens to want the perfect body.

But I hope that this improvement expands into media for adults; young people see those things too.

Girls told the researchers lack of body confidence not only stopped them wearing certain clothes and having their pictures taken - but also prevented them exercising, speaking up in class and socialising.

Low body confidence is undermining academic achievement.

5:55 But it's also damaging health. Teenagers with low body confidence do less physical activity, eat less fruits and vegetables, partake in more unhealthy weight control practices that can lead to eating disorders. They have lower self-esteem. They're more easily influenced by people around them and they're at greater risk of depression. And we think it's for all of these reasons that they take more risks with things like alcohol and drug use; crash dieting; cosmetic surgery; unprotected, earlier sex; and self-harm. The pursuit of the perfect body is putting pressure on our healthcare systems and costing our governments billions of dollars every year.
If any other social force resulted in less exercising, maybe there'd be more cries of protest and calls for action, but the mainstream fitness world's main answer for low body confidence is to keep promising that perfect body. (There are multiple fitness-flavored titles that include this very phrase!)

I'll be even more impressed when things like "#cellfies" appear in magazines for older people and outnumber the articles on "solutions" for so-called cellulite and everything else that deviates from the "perfect body." Even if teens somehow didn't read those magazines, body positivity is for everyone.

Thanks for the link!
