TV set up help

This is not about setting up a tv. I am trying to come up with an idea for furniture for a tv.

In our family room we have an entertainment center with our tv. When that tv dies we will have trouble trying to find another one to fit the opening. The entertainment center is from the 1990s (gasp) when television sets were much smaller. We last bought a new tv in 2010, and that one I think is 26 inches.

It will be really hard to find another tv that size. We don't want buy a new entertainment center with a bigger opening. They are are very expensive. We don't want to mount the tv on the wall. My DH and son like to watch tv stretched out on the floor, and it would be hard to see if it is on the wall.

We can't use a traditional tv stand/cabinet because one of our cats is a jumper and a wire chewer. She would jump on the stand and try to get at the wires behind the tv.

I just hope our current tv will last a lot longer. Is there anyone else with this situation who has come up with a way to protect the tv wires without mounting the tv on the wall or putting the wires in the wall?

I'm sorry for being so long winded.

Thanks!
Sherry

Sherry we ran into the same issue. We didn't want to mount the TV to the wall and the TVs don't really fit into the entertainment center furniture that we have. We did buy a cabinet type piece of furniture with drawers and a space for DVR/DVDs etc. The TV isn't enclosed, but we bought a prop kind of thing that is normally used for households that have small children who might pull the TV over (or in our case, cats). It attaches to the back of the TV and also to the back of the cabinet so it holds it steady and won't be knocked over by errant visitors. It's removable. As far as the cords go, we use the plastic cord protectors that slip over the cords, and also put sticky paws tape on top of that. Our bunch stay from this setup. Good luck!

Thank you! I appreciate you responding. Would you have a link to what you bought, please?

Let me look! It's been awhile!

I asked my DH and he found the actual box! The bad news is that it apparently isn't made anymore. We bought it in 2015. FYI it's called the Peerless-AV ACSTA1-US Stabilis Home Safety Kit for LCD and Plasma Screens/32-60 Black. Couldn't even find it on Ebay. Guess a 60" TV is considered "small" these days. Maybe that's why they discontinued it.

In my search I DID find one that might work for you. We can't say it's good or not since we don't have it, but the idea is similar. Here's the link:

The cord covers/protectors are available at Home Depot or any hardware store. I think they are called wire/cord protectors.

Have you used Sticky Paws before? It's great for spots that cats like to mess with. It's basically 2 sided tape. They don't like that sticky feel on their pads.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. We have not used sticky paws before. I will look into them.
