Hi Everyone,

This morning was:

Jessica Smith - 4 Mile Power Walk - Miles 3 & 4 - this is really an enjoyable workout. I like breaking it into parts though b/c it is hard to find the time to do a full hour at once - and, I also have exercise ADD and if I am going to workout for an hour, i prefer to mix it up.

Essentrics Challenge Day #6 - Full Body Stretching - I *think* this may be Episode # 1 from Season 13. Not sure - the set up was like the TV series though.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Donna

wishiwasinhawaii 01-18-20 11:28 AM

Today was Jessica's Strictly Strength from the Get Strong DVD. I decided to get back on a rotation, so I'm doing the one on the back of that DVD. We're supposed to have nasty weather starting in a few hours so I'm staying in today and cleaning and decluttering. I also never got around to taking my Christmas tree down, so I need to do that!

Donna, I only did the whole 4 miles of the Power Walk DVD at one time once. I just don't have time to do an hour workout anymore, unfortunately. It comes up tomorrow on the rotation and I will probably do 2 miles.

I haven't heard anything from that job I interviewed for yet about scheduling the next interview. Since Monday is a holiday, I don't expect to hear until Tuesday at the earliest. I'm not thrilled about business travel, but I'll see what the hiring manager says. I also applied for an internal job yesterday. That would be ideal since I could keep my vacation days, etc. that I've accrued over the years, but I've never had any luck with internal jobs, so we'll see.

Waves, Sherry and Pam!

Well, the cold is still hanging on. So annoying! But I am feeling better, just not over it yet. It's been two weeks so far. It seems as soon as I get out and do stuff, it comes back again. You'd think sitting around doing nothing would be easy when you don't work out of the home, but it isn't. It's driving me crazy not being able to get things done around the house, and not being able to socialize. Not to mention working out, which alleviates my stress. I've decided I'm doing a short workout tomorrow, cold be darned, lol.

The weather really warmed up, it was 76 today. Really nice weather, I'm enjoying it. It's supposed to get cooler next week, however.

wishiwasinhawaii, I'm glad the interview went well. I hope either job works out for you.

Donna, I really like Power Walk, but I've only done one or two at a time.

donnamp 01-20-20 08:13 AM

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I went MIA - just got busy!

Sunday was:

Essentrics Challenge Day # 7 - Full Body Stretching
later in the day i did:

Margaret Richard Uplugged 1900 Episode 1 - I don't know how i "forgot" about Margaret - she may be my solution to doing some weight training without aches and pains!

Monday, so far:

Leslie Walk 15 - 2 Mile walk These walks are a lot of fun - good energy and nice to see different people leading. This one had a walk by Leslie and one by Rocky.

Essentrics Challenge Day 8 - Posture and Spine

We are off to visit one of our local collages today w/ DD. I am not sure if she would want to go there - but it is good to check it out - it is close by and may be a good option for the first year or two until she figures things out.

I hope to be back later to catch up with everyone!

Donna

Leonana 01-20-20 06:13 PM

Today was Jessica's Back Friendly strength workout on you tube. I used three pounds. I'm going to do shorter workouts this week. Still have the cold, but I'm going crazy not being able to workout, it really helps me with stress and I sleep better. I don't think it's made me worse, so that's a plus.

Donna, I hope the visit to the college went well. Margaret sounds like a good choice for your strength workouts.

wishiwasinhawaii 01-20-20 06:23 PM

I forgot to post yesterday, so I did the first 3 miles of the Power Walk DVD. I really wanted to do all 4 but was gassed after 3! I'm happy I did 3 though. I didn't have today off so I haven't done a workout yet, but Stepping Strength is on the schedule so I will do that later--probably the youtube version.

Sherry, I made up a rotation of 15 minute or less Jessica youtube workouts after I was sick in December and did that for a few weeks. It worked really well and I didn't lose any strength since I am doing Jessica's more difficult workouts using 8 lbs now. I was really surprised because I thought doing shorter workouts with lighter weights would be a bad thing. Guess not!

Donna, I hope the college visit went well. My nephew is a senior and has been waiting to hear from colleges. It's all very stressful and then he has to try to decide which one to attend. He is only waiting for one more and then he'll start to visit them. Is your DD doing better with the issues she was having and is going to stay at her high school?

donnamp 01-21-20 09:21 AM

Hi Everyone,

Back to work today....

This morning I did Jessica Valent's Cardio Pilates. It was good - not much cardio per se but there wan't a whole lot of set up between exercises, so no down time! I plan to get a walk in at work today even though it is chilly and I plan to get my Essentrics Day # 9 in this evening.

wishiwasinhawaii - I do think consistency really is the key - not necessarily doing long workouts. I sometimes feel like I need to increase the intensity of my workouts, though.

Sherry - I know what you mean - for me exercise is my stress relief, too.

The college visit went well - it is only 20 minutes away - which may be why my DD is NOT interested - but I think it is a good bridge - she could live on campus but still be close enough to home to come home whenever she wanted to - she could even continue to lease her horse. But, we shall see. Fingers crossed - she does seem to be doing better. She started seeing a therapist on and off - mostly b/c it is hard to stick to a schedule with school, activities, my work, etc. but I think it is helping her gain some perspective on things so her moods do seem better and her sense of humor is returning. I hope it keeps up. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Hope everyone has a good day -

Donna

Leonana 01-21-20 07:11 PM

Rest day today. Still battling the cold. Ugh. I feel better today after resting. Then I'll do too much tomorrow, and it will come back, lol. But I'm going to rest tomorrow too. It's been two weeks, but I've heard people have it from 3-6 weeks.

One reason I wanted the stress relief from working out is that I have a well woman visit in two weeks, and a renewal of my bp medication. I still have the severe white coat syndrome, so wanted to take my bp at home, and working out regularly keeps it down. I started getting really stressed over the whole thing, but I've since been successful at calming myself down. It is what it is, and it will all work out.

wishiwasinhawaii, thanks for the tips on shorter workouts. I will try it as soon as this cold is gone. I'm going to have to face the fact that I just can't do workouts right now, it makes the cold worse.

Donna, I'm glad the college tour went well, and that your daughter is doing better. You never know, when the time comes, she could very well want to stay closer to home. My daughter has talked about moving out twice now, but she's still here.

wishiwasinhawaii 01-22-20 12:03 AM

Today was miles 3 & 4 of the Power Walk DVD.

Donna, Glad to hear your DD is doing better. My older nephew is a junior in college now. When he was a freshman, he went to a college in Virginia and hated it and transferred after the first semester to a college a half hour away from here. He just wasn't mature enough to go far, even though when he was in high school he said there was NO WAY he'd go to the college nearby because it was too close. So you never know. He has an apartment now with some friends close to the campus, but he lived on campus last year.

Sherry, I actually feel like I'm getting a sore throat again, which is what I had last month. It's very annoying how it goes away, returns, goes away, etc.!! I'll see how I feel tomorrow but if I still have it, I'm not going to do a workout.

donnamp 01-22-20 07:00 AM

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did get my walk in at work - it was windy and cold, but I'm glad I did it anyway. I also did Essentrics Challenge Day # 9 Posture and Spine.

This morning I did Essentrics Challenge Day # 10 Rebalance Your Connective Tissue. I am working from home today so I am going to try to get a 20 min walk in later....

wishiwasinhawaii - I'm not sure how my DD would do with being away. Initially, i think it would be hard for her b/c she is introverted and finds it hard to make new friends - I think ultimately she would be ok - but not sure how long she would want to ride it out for that to happen. I think going close to home would be a good option - as she could live on campus and then come home/take a break when needed. I always tell her that just b/c she starts one place doesn't mean she has to finish there - lots of kids transfer!

Sherry - I'm sorry you are still sick! Ugh. I hear you on white coat syndrome, I have it too. Just the thought of taking my blood pressure makes it rise!

I hope you both feel better soon - my turn for sickness will come in the spring. I don't know what is up with that - but that is my sick time of year. I may take allergy meds this year starting in March - I don't really feel that I have bad allergies, but maybe it stresses my immune system to fight the allergens and that is why I get sick. DD has bad allergies and last year she started her meds in March and ended up having a pretty good season w/out getting sick.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Donna

wishiwasinhawaii 01-22-20 08:45 PM

I got home late so I didn't do a workout today. I did walk a mile at work so at least I did something! I work from home tomorrow so I'll be able to get my workout in at some point. I feel fine today so I guess my throat was just dry from being indoors in the dry heat.

Donna, Kids definitely transfer all the time these days. My nephew is very outgoing, which oddly is the reason he didn't like his first college. There just wasn't much to do and the college was in a rural area, which he realized wasn't for him. A lot of times they think they know what they want, but realize after they try it that it wasn't the right choice, and that's ok.

Sherry, Hope you're feeling better!

donnamp 01-23-20 06:51 AM

Hi,

This morning was: Essentrics Barre - Standing and Floor. I plan to get a walk in at work and maybe something else tonight - time will tell. My neighbor is turning 90 and they are having a little party for him tonight so we're going to stop by - so it all depends on how much time I have after that.

Yesterday I did get a 20 min HIIT walk in from Gina B's You Tube Channel and I also did Blessful Body - Love Your Core - Workout # 1 (10 min of Pilates).

I miss Blessful Body! But I have access to these 5 core workouts from signing up on her site. I may re-join her site at some point, but I'm feeling guilty about spending the money on Trifecta Pilates which suddenly doesn't appeal to me. Ugh.

Sherry - I hope you are feeling better!

wishiwasinhawaii - I know what you mean - sometimes they just have to try something and see if it works for them.

Happy Friday Eve -

Donna

Leonana 01-23-20 10:41 AM

I am feeling better, thanks for the well wishes! I am going to wait until Monday to start working out again, I'm still a little congested and low energy. I am going to do my volunteer filing today, so should be good (crossing my fingers!).

donnamp 01-24-20 07:01 AM

Hi Everyone,

This morning was Essentrics Release and Rebuild Your Fascia.

Yesterday I walked at work but didn't get anything done in the evening.

The party for my neighbor was nice - he had a good showing! I realized a sid benefit to doing Essentrics - as is usually the case at parties you end up standing around in the kitchen talking - well, I stood for over an hour and no back pain....so, maybe there is something to this...

Sherry - I hope the filing day went well! I watched a few of Dr. Dray's videos last night - Oh my - she is using a lot of high end stuff and subscription box type things like the pre-packaged smoothies and the meals from Purple Carrot. She has really moved away from her minimalist roots, that is for sure! I guess she gets paid for doing these sponsored videos, so on the one hand, can't really blame her but quite a change from her early days of You Tube.

wishiwasinhawaii - I think the dry indoor air is bothering my throat (scratchy) and sinuses (headache)...I should probable pull out our humidifiers.

Hope everyone has a good Friday -

Donna

Leonana 01-24-20 09:58 PM

Another rest day. I'm feeling much better, almost back to normal. After two and a half weeks of only three workouts, my jeans are tighter today. I'm looking forward to getting back into the groove. Maybe I'll start on Sunday. I have yard work and house work tomorrow.

Donna, I'm glad the Essentrics is working for your back. I thought the Tai Chi was helping my lower back, but forgot I was also taking Tylenol while I had my cold, lol. But maybe it helped too. That's the main reason I stopped watching Dr Dray, too many sponsored products I'm not interested in. I still watch some of her Q&A's, she has some interesting info in those.

wishiwasinhawaii 01-25-20 12:01 PM

Today is a rest day on the schedule, but I decided to dust off a DVD I bought maybe a year ago and never opened: Ilaria's Forza Samurai Sword Workout. It's pretty old (from 2006) and it looks outdated as far as the production quality, but is a very good workout. I used to be very active in martial arts about 10 years ago and this reminds me of that. It's not easy by any means. It's an hour workout and I only got through the first 15 minutes and had to stop, LOL. But I will revisit it again soon.

Rainy day here so I'm going to do some work around the house.

Donna, Glad to hear the party went well.

Sherry, Thank goodness you're finally feeling better!

It seems everything is going to a subscription model these days. Jessica Smith is one of the few that isn't doing that (so far) but I have a feeling she might go in that direction at some point, as will all of youtube.:( I don't like the idea of paying over and over to access something, so good thing I have enough DVDs to keep me going, as long as the DVD players I have hold up!

donnamp 01-26-20 08:39 AM

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday was a busy day - I met with a realtor to sell my mom's place and also a painter to update the colors....

My workouts:

Saturday:

Jessica - Walk On - Stride and Strength - this was from her first Walk On set - filmed on the dock. I enjoyed this one - the cardio and toning were done separately which made it easier to go heavier with weights (heavy for me).

Essentrics Challenge Day 13 - Hip & Knee Strengthening

Sunday:

Jenny Ford - March Across America - Tetons (Jenny has a Roku Channel now - Freedom Fit - and her March and Step Across America series are on there). This was a basic 20 min walk

Jessica Valent Pilates - Full Body Pilates Barre
Jessica Valent Pilates - Renew & Restore Stretch

I may add on the Essentrics Challenge workout for the day later if i feel like it - it is the posture and spine workout I have done previously.

wishiwasinhawaii - I agree re: subscription services, even though I do subscribe to a few! That sounds like an interesting workout. Someday I should challenge myself to one month of just DVD workouts - no streaming at all.

Sherry - glad you are feeling better!

Waves,

Donna

Leonana 01-26-20 09:30 PM

Another rest day today. Did some housework and yard work yesterday. I'm planning on starting some lighter workouts tomorrow. Since I have the Tai Chi on Wednesdays, I think I will switch my cardio to MWF, and strength on TTHS.

I wonder if Jessica will do streaming. If she does, I hope there is still a download option, or dvd option, so you can have it forever. I don't have as many dvd's as most here, but more than the average bear. I think I have around 30-35, mostly Jessica's. I hope if she does go streaming, she leaves up her old You Tube videos for free. Of course, I'll be subscribing if she does, even though I'm not currently subscribed to anything.

wishiwasinhawaii, 15 minutes is probably more than I could do, lol. I've never tried Ilaria.

Donna, good luck with the condo sale. I'm sure it will be a load off of you once it's sold.

donnamp 01-27-20 06:55 AM

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I ended up taking a long walk w/ DD - so I got a lot of steps in for me!

Today was Essentrics Rebalance Your Connective Tissue. I will try to get out at work since tonight DD has her riding lesson and I will not want to anything afterwards.

Sherry - sounds like a good workout schedule. If Jessica went the streaming route, I would join - she offers a lot of variety. A lot of sites are just one thing - and that gets boring....

waves wishiwasinhawaii and Pam

I hope the condo sale goes through smoothly - I'm having it painted and I have to get rid of the living room set that is in there (it was too big for my mom's new place). My mom is driving me crazy and talking about moving again - ugh. Her lease is up in Sept. I may consider moving her to a place that has more services - like meals - it is more expensive, but it may be worth it.

Hope everyone has a good day!!

Donna

Leonana 01-27-20 08:44 PM

Today was two Jessica you tube workouts, 1 Mile Belly, Buns and Thighs workout, and the Under the Weather workout. The 1 Mile workout was faster and more intense than I expected, it was almost a low impact HIIT! I enjoyed it though, it was nice to get back to working out.

Donna, it sounds like a place with meals might be good for your mom. I'm sure it must be frustrating hearing her say she wants to move again. Dr Dray just did a video on Paula's Choice 20% Niacinimide. I am going to check it out this evening.

wishiwasinhawaii 01-27-20 11:47 PM

Today was miles 1 and 4 from Power Walk. Yesterday was Strictly Strength.

Donna, Hope you are able to sell the condo quickly. Is the place that has meals more like an assisted living situation?

Sherry, I agree. If Jessica went to streaming, I'd probably sign up! That would be my only subscription though.

donnamp 01-28-20 06:53 AM

Hi Everyone,

Today was - Essentrics Day 16 - Full Body with Amanda - this was a more strengthening type workout - standing and floor and some good stretches at the end.

I plan to walk at work (I did yesterday) and this evening do some cardio. Maybe something from Jessica's Walk On set (the one filmed on the dock - I did one of them over the weekend!)

wishiwasinhawaii - the place with the meals is not assisted living per se- although they do have that option there as well as memory care. The apartment there would be small - similar to what my mom has now - but you are responsible for cleaning it and your personal care (dressing, meds, showering, etc.) there is a meal plan with breakfast and dinner provided - lunch would be on your own. The apartments have fridges and stoves so you could make something quick for yourself for lunch. I'm giving it some thought...I'll see where we are once we sell the condo. My mother is the oddball - she doesn't want to be independent - most people try to hang on to their independence! I guess the best way to describe the place i'm looking at is like living in a hotel.....

Sherry - maybe I'll do that walk on my "HIIT" day this week. I can't do Jessica Valent's HIIT - she does too much jumping and other dreadful moves! LOL!
I will have to check out that video form Dr. Dray!

Waves,

Donna

wishiwasinhawaii 01-28-20 07:14 PM

Today was Stepping Strength (youtube version).

Donna, That's interesting. I didn't know there was an option that is an assisted living 'lite' for those that don't need everything assisted living has. Does Medicare pay for any of this? Forgive my ignorance, but I've never had to deal with older parent issues, so I really know nothing about it. I'm actually asking for a friend who is having some similar issues to what you're experiencing.

Waves, Sherry!

donnamp 01-29-20 08:28 AM

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I got a walk in at work and then in the evening I did Jessica Smith's Walk On (dock setting) Latin Dance Walk. These are more fast paced than I remember! Either that or I am slower....probably the latter.

This morning I did Gina B's Dance That Walk Circuit # 2- Upper Body Circuit and i added on a stretch from Gina B's You Tube Channel. If time permits I'll get the Essentrics workout in later, but if not, I'll just be behind a day!

My DD doesn't have school today but I scheduled her for doctor's appointments so I'll be busy running around with that.

wishiwasinhawaii - for good or bad I have learned a lot about senior living and assisted living/nursing homes! There are age restricted communities - that is where my mom lives now - it is basically an apartment complex for people over a certain age. There are no services per se although there is an office and they do plan activities for the residents like bingo, movie nights, parties, etc. There is also a bus service available 4 days a week that takes them out to grocery stores, banks, shopping, etc. and they do have day trips occasionally. But the residents are responsible for their own apartments, meals, etc. Then there are places where they have a continuum of care - there is independent living, assisted living, memory care and nursing care. Some of these places come with a meal plan for those living independently. I looked at one of those places for my mom - she would have her own apartment and would be responsible for it - but there is a meal service where you get breakfast and dinner in a dining room setting - which is good for socialization. Depending on the stage you are in for assisted living, I think even the folks in assisted living eat in the dining room. They also have social activities, trips, buses, etc. Then there is assisted living where you have differing levels of assistance depending on your needs - such as dressing, grooming, cleaning, medication management, etc. And, finally there is nursing care for those who are essentially unable to do most things for themselves. And, of course, memory care for those with alzheimers/dementia. Independent living in a senior community is the cheapest option since there are no services being provided. The next level up would be the independent living with meals and that is more expensive - the place I looked at for that was $2,500-$3,000 per month depending on the size of your apartment (I don't recall if that included utilities). Up from there is assisted living and the price around here varies on that depending on the amount of assistance provided, whether you are in a single or double room, etc. The places I looked at around here started at the $3,000+/month range for a shared room with limited assistance and went up to something like, I kid you not, $87,000 per year for great deal of assistance! Then, there is nursing home care and that is outrageously expensive - Medicare and any private insurance you have pays for it for a limited time - I believe Medicare pays 100% for 20 days and then they pay 80% and your private insurance picks up the balance - if you have insurance - it has to be medically necessary that you be there - but they only pay for a certain number of days (I think 90) and then you are on your own - doing self-pay until you run out of money at which point you go on Medicaid and they pick up the tab. But, it has to be medically necessary that you be there to have Medicaid pay. Medicare/Medicaid does not pay for assisted living at all. So, it is a grim situation for people who are not aging well - the costs of these places will quickly dry up your savings and if you own a home Medicaid will put a lien on it and re-coup the money when the house is sold. I am hesitant to have my mother go to assisted living just yet b/c her money will run out all the faster - and once it is gone I don't know what happens if she is not ready for a nursing home that Medicare/Medicaid would pay for. Getting in home help is an option but the hourly rates add up quickly and some places have a minimum number of hours per day/per week and sometimes you have to be careful who you hire - we know of a woman who was robbed 2X by two different care givers -

One thing i would suggest is that your friend find an elder care attorney - there are ways to set up trusts, etc. that will protect the assets of the person and also enable them to be eligible for Medicaid sooner. Medicaid has a five year look back - so you really have to plan ahead - essentially if you go through the trouble and expense of setting up these trusts, you have to pray that your loved one does not need to go on Medicaid for 5 years b/c if they do, the "jig is up" so to speak and they will get your money.

All very sad for those who are not aging well and those who are left to care for them. I know I could not take on having my mom live with me - it would be a disaster - so I feel like I'm between a rock and hard place in figuring out what to do. Realistically, with a job and a family, I really can't be running to her place all the time either to help her with stuff. I do what I can - but it is probably not enough. But, I also can't sacrifice my own health and sanity and my family life for it either. So.Ugh.

Sorry to write a book!

Donna

wishiwasinhawaii 01-29-20 09:12 PM

Today I did one of Jessica's older 30 minute youtube walking videos. I also went for a brief walk at work.

Donna, thanks for the detailed information! I had no idea Medicare doesn't pay for assisted living and about the 5 year thing. That's all very scary. Do you think you'll end up moving your mom to the place with the meals? Honestly, I hate cooking so I wouldn't mind that myself, LOL.

I'll pass the info on to my friend. Thank you again!!! :)

donnamp 01-30-20 09:06 AM

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday was a productive day - and I also managed to get a long walk in w/ DD as well as my Essentrics workout - which I think was core with Meg (??)

This morning was Essentrics - Lower body -with Gail. I can't keep the titles straight. I am aiming for a walk at work as well as something this evening.

wishiwasinhawaii - it is a bit overwhelming to sort all this stuff out - so going to an attorney is a good idea - it is expensive to set up a trust like that but could be well worth it in the end to preserve assets....I'm not sure what to do w/ my mom honestly. She is never happy - no matter where she is. Re: cooking, I don't mind doing it but I feel I never have enough time to do it and just becomes another painful chore to get done. I try to do some advance meal prep on the weekends to make during the week meals easier, but that doesn't always work out the way I want it to and I also don't want to spend my entire weekend preparing for the coming week. So, it is tricky. When I'm retired I may not hate cooking - we'll see! But truly, some of these places are pretty nice with a lot of activities. The trouble is my mom would probably never go to anything and would eventually find going to the dining room for meals to be too much trouble. *sigh*

waves, Sherry - I watched Dr. Dray and Angie's video on some new retinol product from France - it sounds like a dud! I may go back to Differin, I backed off of it for awhile as I wasn't sure if it was doing anything.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Donna

Leonana 01-30-20 11:27 AM

Tuesday was you tube, the Back Friendly Strength workout. Yesterday was my Tai Chi class. Today was FITIN15 Upper Body. I have my volunteer filing today, so need some energy.

I really enjoyed the Tai Chi class. It relieves stress, provides some stretching, and also some light cardio and toning. It's also good to get out of the house.

Donna, my mother lived in what was called a retirement center for the last five years of her life. It was similar to what you described, however, there was no assisted living or nursing home attached. They provided three meals a day in the dining room, and once a week room cleaning, and also provided and laundered linens. The resident had to bathe themselves and do their personal laundry. There were activities and rides to stores. They also had a beauty salon stylist come in once a week, along with things like a hearing aid company. The meals were pretty good, we were able to eat there with my mom for a low price. Her health actually improved, because she was eating healthier. The resident had a two room suite with a bathroom. The kitchen area had a small fridge and microwave, so they could eat in their room if they liked. It was like a hotel room, but the rooms were large. Fortunately, she never needed assisted living. She lived there from 2001 to 2006, and the cost then was $2000 a month, which was paid for by her social security. She also rented out her home, and had the rental income for personal expenses.

I think about what my daughter will have to deal with when my husband and I age. Another good reason to continue exercising!

donnamp 01-31-20 07:07 AM

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I walked at work but didn't get anything else in - I ended up staying late to talk to a co-worker who is having a hard time - in a nutshell our workplace stinks and her situation is particularly bad. She is considering resigning but doesn't want to go w/out health insurance. I keep encouraging her to stick it out and actively look for another job but it is so bad for her she is seeing a therapist and not getting any sleep at night. It really is a very dysfunctional environment. Personally, I check the job postings every day for transfer opportunities. I'm not willing to leave my employer b/c after 20 years I have too much invested there to leave completely - but I do look for ways out of where I am on a daily basis! My co-worker has only been there a few years - so she can leave and not lose too much.

Anyway - all that being said, I got home too late to do anything else.

This morning I did Gina B's Dance that Walk Circuit # 2 - Lower Body. These workouts and Gina are a lot of fun. I enjoyed this one - 5 min of dance inspired walking alternated w/ 5 min of toning.

I will probably get out to walk today at work.

Sherry - I think a place like where your mom lived is a great option. TBH, I think my mom would ultimately complain about going to the dining room and would not take part in any social activities - she stopped doing things were she is now and complained about them when she was doing them. She is very difficult to please. So, I'm thinking now of hiring a service to come in a few hours a week to do housekeeping and such for her.

waves, wishiwasinhawaii!

Has anyone heard from Pam? I will send her a PM later to see how she is.

Donna

Yesterday was Strictly Strength. Today is a stretch day, which I will do later tonight.

Donna, I agree your co-worker should try to find another job and not just resign. I guess she could go on Cobra for health insurance, but that is very expensive. The job I had the phone interview with a couple of weeks ago contacted me and said they decided to put the position on hold, so they aren't hiring anyone right now and will let me know if that changes. So at least I know what happened with that. I haven't heard anything from the internal job I applied for.

Like you, I've been at my company a long time and am heavily invested, but my manager is a nightmare, so I am looking for jobs outside because internal jobs that I'm qualified for don't come around too often. I'd be losing the vacation days I've accrued, but that's about it, so once I realized that, I decided leaving wouldn't be so bad. I'm continuing to apply for anything that looks good and will see what happens. I really doubt I'll leave this year because the whole job search process seems to take forever these days. Next year seems more likely.

Sherry, The place your mom lived in sounds perfect! It's good she was able to pay for it using social security. I agree we have to keep exercising. It's so important, especially as we age!

I haven't heard anything from Pam. Hopefully she is ok and is just busy.

Today was Mile One from the Power Walk dvd, with WU and CD. I get mixed up with this one, since the countdown clock counts up instead of down. I keep thinking I've worked out longer than I really have, lol.

Donna, that sounds awful, your poor co-worker. I hope she finds something better soon. Regarding your mother, having a cleaning service come in sounds like a great plan, and also sounds cheaper than moving her to a facility with more care. It all depends on the person, some would participate in activities, and some won't. My mother loved it. I am still loving the Curology, although it's made my skin drier. I'm now moisturizing with the CeraVe Cream in a tub at night. My skin feels so soft and looks nicer, so I'm pretty happy with the Curology. I found the fragrance free Ponds at Target, so picked it up today. I'm going to try it this evening, and see how it removes eye makeup.

wishiwasinhawaii, that's too bad about the job on hold. Good luck with the job hunt.

Hi Everyone,

This morning was:

Jessica's Walk on - Flat Abs Walk (from the "Dock" set) It has been good to re-visit this series!

Essentrics - Hip & Knee Strengthening - back to the Essentrics challenge, I really want to finish it! I feel that it has been helpful - definitely fewer aches and pains from doing these regularly.

Hope everyone has a good Saturday!

Yesterday was housework and FITIN15 Sculpt and Slim. I thought it would be fusion, but I think it was more metabolic. But it was 12 minutes so I managed. I added in about ten minutes of my own moves with dumbbells. Today I'm going to try and do a yoga or stretch workout this afternoon.

Donna, that's great you are enjoying Jessica again. Congrats on getting to the last week of the challenge!

Yesterday was a rest day on the schedule and today was Strictly Strength. I increased the weight I'm using to 10 and 6 lbs and was able to get through it, except I had to drop to 8 lbs on the upright rows. I did cleaning, laundry and ironing yesterday so that was enough of a workout!

Not much going on here. Going to a small gathering in a bit to watch the Super Bowl. I'm not a fan of either team but it should be a good game.

wishiwasinhawaii, those are impressive weights! I agree, cleaning and laundry is enough of a workout.

We are also going to a Superbowl party. It's at our friends' over 55 park. They are meeting in the main hall, and everyone is bringing finger foods. I guess there will be a big tv in the hall. It's a good thing our friends moved to the park, it definitely increased our social life, lol. But sometimes I have a hard time realizing I'm 60 now! I'm not a football fan, and neither is dh. But we enjoy it.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday afternoon I walked outdoors w/ DD.

This morning was Essentrics Rebalance Your Connective Tissue. DD has riding lessons tonight but it is going to be in the 60's today so I will get a walk in at work.

I'm in week # 4 of the Essentrics challenge - After that, I was giving some thought to the CocoLime Program. Although I will probably start it at Day 30 or Day 45 or Day 60 - the first 30 days of it are pretty light and I can probably start later in the program. I think I will try the cardio workouts once to see what I think - they don't look to be my cup of tea, but who knows. If I don't like them I'll sub something else.

That is the plan for now, LOL! The last week in the Essentrics program is longer than 7 days since it is a 30 day program, I think I'm done on the 11th with that.

wishiwasinhawaii and Sherry - hope you enjoyed your Superbowl festivities! We did not have any at our house - my DH goes to bed really early for work and he is the only one in the house remotely interested in the football.

Hope everyone has a good Monday!

No workout yet, I had a well woman visit this morning. It went well, I like the doctor I switched to last November. They seem to be okay with recognizing my really bad white coat syndrome, and believing me about my bp numbers at home. But I guess it helps that my tests are all negative, I'm not overweight and I exercise regularly. My last doctor would schedule a visit every four to six weeks, which is not only expensive with my insurance, but would increase my anxiety. This doctor seems content to have me in for only whatever preventative exam I need, and is okay with my current prescription.

I hope to do a workout this evening. I'm planning on Jessica's Dance Stretch from her outdoor walking dvd's. Donna, you made me think about them again!

Donna, none of us are into football. DH and I went for the socializing, and I like to watch the commercials. The food was good too, although maybe not a good idea the night before my doctor's appointment, lol.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I took a walk at work with my co-worker - the one who is considering quitting due to stress/anxiety/unhappiness. She walks slow though so it wasn't really an effective walk!!

Today I did: Jessica's Barefoot Fusion Walk from the Walk On (Dock setting) set.

Sherry - glad you found a good Dr. they seem harder and harder to come by these days.

Waves, wishiwasinhawaii

I plan to walk again at work if it isn't raining and then tonight do my Classical Stretch episode.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Donna

I took yesterday off because I stayed up late the night before due to the Super Bowl and overslept! It was a beautiful day so I went for an outdoor walk and later did miles 3 & 4 of the Power Walk DVD. Tonight I plan to do Stepping Strength.

Gotta run to get to work so I will post more later...

donnamp 02-04-20 07:32 PM

Glad you took a mental health day, wishiwasinhawaii! And yesterday was a great day to do it -

I didn't get out for my walk at work - I got busy with something....

But, I did my CS/Essentrics this evening.

Donna
