Covid-19 perspective by Lauren Brooks' dad

I don't mean to minimize the true dangers of this virus, but Lauren Brooks' dad wrote something about WW2 to put stay-at-home orders in perspective. I thought it was interesting.

That was a wonderful article. It’s hard to imagine what they went through back then.

I really enjoyed reading this article. I've heard a lot of the same stories from my own grandparents who had lived through WW II in Europe. Maybe that's why I am a lot calmer about the current situation with coronavirus than my husband, whose family has not experienced the same things first-hand as mine had. I definitely take precautions with Coronavirus, but I take it in stride and I carry on. With appropriate social distancing. :)

Lovely article. My aunt just sent me a long email with stories about my great grandma during the depression. She would bake goods and trade them with a local farmer for chickens. And during WWII when my grandfather was fighting in the South Pacific, my grandmother went many months not hearing anything about my grandfather and if he was dead or alive. Tough times indeed but they survived. And with proper social distancing, we will survive, too!

Wonderful article. I've been telling many others that although the current situation with COVID-19 is bad, it could be so much worse. It gets them thinking and, as Mr. Brooks attempted, put it into perspective.

Thank you for sharing!

Agree 100%--thank you for sharing.

Kate Atkinson wrote some novels about that era that are among my all-time favorites (Life After Life, A God in Ruins).

BBC did a great series based on the Land Girls (called The Land Girls).

My parents were of that generation---Dad served in WW2---so I also heard first-hand accounts on what it was like during that era and growing up during the depression (large families, working class, how they survived). My grandmother, who lived in "town," had an extensive veggie garden that took up most of her backyard. They also had backyard hens out of necessity, decades before they became "chic."
